Pretty funny that he would be critical of an article, as a journalist, and then put forth a weight which is contradicted nearly everywhere and totally unsupported except by his own imagination.

If he has doubts about the issue, he should contact the people at http://militaryreligiousfreedom.org/ who regularly deal with the efforts to infuse religion into the US armed forces.

Wow, this is just crazy. Guys with guns in battle armor, occupy a country, and then hand out religious books as part of a conversion crusade.

Did I wake up in the Middle Ages today or is the world really this mentally retarded?

True, but but I used an acceptable process for approximating a measurement in these cases, which is find a similar product, take a measurement, then subtract a factor.

I remember reading years ago that Amazon.com tends to underestimate shipping weight as a matter of business because it gives the appearance you are getting a bargain on shipping costs. Sort of like how your state in the USA deliberately underestimates the dollar value of your property for tax purposes.

I understand how this might look... for the purposes of this discussion, I've emailed the publisher asking for an exact weight of the military edition. HOWEVER, the military edition isn't named that because the text is different in some "military" way - the military edition appears to be more heavy-duty, with thicker paper and a heavier binding! So, let's see if my 4 lb estimate is an underestimate.

So, as a journalist, you chose to ignore the published weight of the book, replace it with your most unscientific estimate, and use that to challenge the factual basis of the article.

Did you bother to call the author? Did you bother to call the The Military Religious Freedom Foundation? If you need, I can provide you with email contacts for both.

All in all, you are not representing yourself very well as a "journalist"

this might be new news for some, but its not new for Iraqis, and was expected, the problem as GRIM mentioned, this will open old wounds and USA and its army will look like the new crusaders.

if you want to invite people to a religion else what they have you should come up with something better, and represent it in a good way, not to come like a vampire behind an army that killed hundreds of thousands of them and start preaching.

It will have dangerous consequences, provoking an Islamic backlash and allowing Muslims to unit to fight against the conversion. Instead of just war between two countries, it will escalate into war into two religions. This isn't really the correct time to launch such campaigns.

No, I chose to ignore an inaccurate figure (which isn't the Military Edition anyway) and substitute it with what is hopefully a more accurate estimate.

Did you bother to read my previous post? Did you bother to read where I've contacted the publisher for the correct weight of the Military edition? If you need, I can provide you with a link for that post.

Amazon.com doesn't list the weight for the Military Edition. Walmart doesn't carry the Military Edition online.

How do you know that figure is inaccurate? Again, you are continuing to put forth your opinion instead of facts. Journalist, eh?

Also, since you challenged the author of this piece and his source, I asked if you contacted either of them. Regardless of the weight of the book, you spoke of much more than that. You questioned the accuracy and called the article itself disingenuous. You based a chunk of that on your 'estimate' of the books weight and based on that 'estimate' made all sorts of assumptions about what was likely. All in all, you are not showing any of the qualities you seem to questioning in others. Again, did you bother to contact the author regarding your questions before calling the article disingenuous?

Your attack on the article appears to be motivated by your personal bias, not on any facts.

The US should do more to help the Christians in Iraq. Christians have lived in Iraq for 2000 years, but due to persecution 50% of Christians have fled Iraq .

    Source please.

    Never mind, found it.

They may be fleeing persecution, but they didn't flee persecution under Saddam.

This situation of persecution is created by the invasion and occupation.

I don't see anything wrong with preaching to Iraqis.

The soldiers didn't cause the war Saddam did.

Iraqis are happy he's gone so, those Iraqis that want to read the Bible should be able to if there is any Christian near.

And if they want a Bible to take home the Christian should supply it.

I didn't read anything that lead me to believe they are shoving religion down their throats.

Iraqis have the right to chose now!
I'm glad Iraqis are exercising the rights so many Americans died for.

I m sure you have so little understanding about the situation in Iraq, below I will paste for you and others, the challenge that facing preaching in Iraq, (which is mostly Iraqi people against it) and how it will effect negatively the Christian population who lived there since thousands of years, from a Christian perspective, just to correct the mistakes in your post:

"I don't see anything wrong with preaching to Iraqis."

soon you will see and then, you will say its not the preaching.. its something else like Saddam.

"The soldiers didn't cause the war Saddam did."

What causes the war, the lies behind the links with Al-Qaeda and the WMD, this is at least what been said, but Iraqis, and people of the region in general know that this is not the reason, reasons are appearing slowly, as they do now.

"They are happy he's gone so, those Iraqis that want to read the Bible should be able to if there is any Christian near."

Parts of the Iraqis are happy because he is gone, I m sure there are also parts of the American will be more than happy when Bush is gone, but what has this to do with preventing them from reading bible, it was available in Iraq when Saddam was in power, and they were able to read it if they wanted.

"And if they want a Bible to take home the Christian should supply it."

They want food to take home, medicine, fuel..etc if they wanted bible of preaching, as you will read in the article below, there were Christian providing it to those who wants, look for 15,000 cassettes ;)

"I didn't read anything that lead me to believe they are shoving religion down their throats."

maybe the decreasing number of Christians there will tell you they are shoving, they are been the target of several attacks since the Iraqi people been "liberated" in 2003

"Iraqis have the right to chose now!
I'm glad they are exercising the rights so many Americans died for."

there is a difference between the individual choice, and the nation choice, the nation choice was NOT to revolt against the ex-Iraqi regime, and revolt against the invasion. As for the individuals, nobody, whether Saddam or else, can take their choice of belief from them, they may hide it for some time, but we have not seen a decrease in numbers of Muslims in Iraq after 2003, the contrary happened, the decrease was in Christian numbers.

Those in the article below, are playing with fire, and I m sure, as the news spread, this will turn into a very ugly thing that nobody wants to see. Then you can be glad, and repeat again "why to blame a whole nation for what one race/one generation did" as you mention elsewhere in the forums.

None of that means a Christian who is a soldier can't pray, give a Bible, and talk with an Iraqi.

And anyway, us being glad when Bush is gone is much different then Iraqis being happy Saddam is gone.

Whoever lives there and is mad saddam is gone is evil and stupid.

when you say "soldier" (= army = force ) you should realize that soldiers should not be there in the first place, and since they are there now, their mission is turning to preaching, which is a dangerous thing, and also you should realize that there are Iraqi Christians who been able to pray, build Churches, give bibles, talk to other Iraqi (Muslims or Christians)

That still doesn't mean anyone that is not there, should be mad that Iraqis who are there want to talk to the Americans they see about GOD.

you are not getting it, they are not just Americans, they are also soldiers, and soldiers represent an army, a force, their job is not preaching, if somebody want to hear preaching, or get a copy of the bible, there are Churches, priests, other Christians, as always been.

I did not see this part, you added it later:

still can't see how different? its very possible and most likely that many Iraqis and others may see who voted for Bush for the 2nd period are stupid and evil.
