Weird, since the day I got my Vista I didn't really receive any virus notification and I thought the Windows Defender was really a charm, I do throughout scan every several days.

But after I purchased and installed AVG(anti virus) and run a throughout scan, and it managed to searched around 10 viruses and Trojan.

So now, is the so called Windows Defender an anti virus program or just a fake?

Neither. Its an anti spyware. Apart from it, you do need an anti virus program like avg, avast or avir.

Oh I see, thanks. But I rather get anti virus programs(e.g. AVG, Avast,Nod32) which do also protect my laptop from spyware.

anti virus is just anti virus, if you need full protection (anti virus/firewall/spy ware) get Internet Security :)

Yep but for paid anti virus programs it also covers the protection against spyware :D

It's amazing how many people actually think their machines are secure when they aren't. Ironically their machines tend to run faster then the people with locked down security.
