I had something very strange happen today. I noticed a huge drop in traffic to two of my sites, both in related niches. This is a relatively competitive niche (there are sponsors above the Serps and "More Sponsored Links" on the side). Looking at my Google Analytics account I saw a drop of in traffic from Google, one site dropped 86%, the other dropped 76%. I immediately assumed that my rankings in Google had dropped, but when I checked my sites, they were still in the same position. The main site has been #1 for a couple of terms, and it is still number one today. I know Google likes my site because there are even site links there. So now I'm completely baffled. How could I get a 80% drop in traffic from Google when my rankings are the same? It's not like people would suddenly stop searching for this thing, my traffic from Google has been fairly consistent for months. Any ideas?
Recently Google is killing some MFA sites, if you site have decent contents, I'm sure it will back soon, otherwise, no ideas.
The site is no MFA that's for sure. Like I said, Google has given it #1 rankings for competitive terms and site links. They have around 800 pages of the site index, which is just about the whole site.
same problem here my traffic reduced from 6,000 to 900 ................. DONNOOOO ..... Same SERPS >..................... all serps STAY INTACT .....
Yep my traffic has also gone down by about 85%, PR has stayed the same. No idea what is wrong. What are MFA sites?
Am seeing the same thing. Drop in Traffic - rankings the same (some better). What market are you guys operating in? There must be a common thread here ... My drops are not as drastic as yours, but there is a drop.
I'm also seeing a drop in the SE traffic from two days for one of my blogs....don't know what is going on with Google.
In the UK we have 2 public (bank) holidays this month and also more people are going away on holidays now. Some people are spending more time outdoors due to longer days etc gardening etc. My trafic always drops a lot in May, not just for UK trafic but also USA trafic. Not saying that is the reson for your drastic drop, but if you are showing the same in serps then it may be more to do with your sites users, than to do with google. Does your niche usually drop at this time of year ?
The sites are about travel. I have never noticed a seasonal dip - the traffic to these sites have consistently growing. I can't see a 75-85% dip in traffic from one day to the next being seasonal.
I saw the same thing with my automotive website that happened a couple of days ago and I can't quite figure it out. Is it possible that Google has bad days too? Most of my traffic was coming from long tail terms and we actually have 8000 more links today than a few days ago when we were getting a bunch of referrals.
Here are some of my top key words: First Keyword: #1 ranking May 28: 216 visitors from Google May 29: 46 visitors from Google Second Keyword: #2 ranking May 28: 47 visitors from Google May 29: 20 visitors from Google Third Keyword: #1 ranking May 28th: 93 visitors from Google May 29th: 15 visitors from Google Such a huge drop from one day to the next with the same rankings, I just don't get it.
Could be market specific. All financial, debt, real estate, banking, traveling are suffering. People have no money!!! Therefore no searches! Nothing Google can do about that.
MFA = Made For Adsense. These are websites that are prodominantly Adsense sites with very little content.
It seems I'm not all alone....site is doing well (getting indexed regularly) but the traffic has dropped.duh!
Check your SERPs through a proxy or have someone from a different country check your SERPS. Different datacenters may show different SERPs. Sometimes I'll see I get a hit from a keyword... then when I go to that page on Google I won't even see my site there. But obviously someone else did! Maybe your rankings dropped for all the datacenters except the one you're on.
Maybe the results have dropped from certain countries, just because you're number 1 - 10 in your country - doesn't mean you have kept the top 10 status around the globe, maybe after some time your sites will bounce back in all countries - after the current update ?
