VPS ftp errors

    Greetings,

I have a VPS account with an hosting site. For the past 2 days i have done a lot of uploads. I have 25+ sites on this account. Today when i try to login into my sites via ftp, its showing ftp login failed for all sites.

The hosting company is still sleeping on my queries regarding this matter.

Interestingly logins for WHM & cpanel for all sites are working fine.

Any experienced DP members plz guide me on how to get the ftp working to upload files to my sites.

    Thanks.

Hey, try restarting your FTP service.

Login to root WHM, go to restart services, and restart the FTP service :)

I have done that but still my ftps for 25+ sites are not working.

Login authentication failed is what the reply i get when i try to connect via core ftp software.

    Or

Could not connect to server from filezilla ftp software.

Try selecting the "syncronise ftp passwords" menu option :)

I have done it. Still the same error. The hosting site says that my account is unmanaged VPS so he will not let me know how to start the ftp.

I may loose a lot of money as i have hired a programmer for updating my websites.

I hope someone here know how to start the ftp again. Plz advice me asap.

    Thanks.

    Perhaps rebooting the physical server?

If we do that any data will be lost? As some of my sites are bigger in size with 5GB-10Gb. Uploading them again will be hell for me.

    Hey
If you are using cPanel with pureftpd as ftp service software,
    login as root
    and type this command
    service pure-ftpd restart

You can see errors if any.

Now this is the response i got from my hosting.

I just tried to ftp and it's working fine:

    220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 03:31. Server port: 21.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.

He doesnt understand that at my side its not working. With coreftp or file zilla. Only capnel logins are working.

It seems to be running fine if he can access it. Maybe it's a firewall problem on your router?

Click "Apache Update" inside WHM then choose the "Build Profile Now"

When the build is complete, restart your FTP service. Then try and re-connect to your FTP account, if it still doesn't work then try to restart the FTP service again, do you get an error ? Then post the error here..

But before you do this, try and create a "second" ftp user inside your cPanel account and connect to it!

    Thanks,
    Freddy

I know it may sound kinda stupid, but are you sure you are using the right FTP Address, or maybe the domain you are using to connect to ftp is pointing to another server.

Have you tried just using the IP as an ftp address?

I tried logging in using IP address as well. Only sites from this VPS account are not opening. I have some sites on other host which are opening fine with my ftp softwares.

The same logins are working fine for cpanel for each site. Only ftp is not opening.

    Been there done that!

Log in to WHM > Main >> Service Configuration >> FTP Configuration

Change the FTP over to Proftpd OR if it is set for Proftpd change it to Pure-ftpd

    When done!
    Step 1

    RySnc Password FTP

    Step 2
    Restart FTP

    Log into FTP

This is ( was or still ) a small bug in cPanel. Uninstalling the one and installing the other is what we were told to do, Solved our problem.

So if that fails the first time,,Repeat these steps switching back to the other FTP and that ( Fingers Crossed )

    Will work!

    Let us know

If FTP core files are corrupt / broken that does nothing, He first has to fix the server FTP uninstalling it and re installing as directed should solve his issues!
