How much time do you spend on your directories/directory daily?
    including building links
    approving links
    editing links
and every other thing related to your directories.
Pl. answer this.I am a new directory owner and It has taken me a lot of time today to approve links coz people keep submitting them in the wrong categories.

Be strict, if they submit to wrong categories they are usually spammers. If your offering free links the least they can do is take the time to post to the correct category. Put it in your terms that if they don't submit to the correct category they risk being not listed.

Development of the directory for example today and yesterday I have spent around 3 hours programming mods, changing the design, adding new features etc.

My editor spends around 3-6 hours a day adding new links.

I spend time writing articles or buying them and adding them.

I spend a good amount of time building links, or finding people to outsource the work to. Advertising, SEO etc all takes time.

does unique content help in directories.

How do u make sure your articles get listed in search engines.

Of course it does. Content is king. The same goes for a normal site, not just a directory.

Look at every popular site on the internet. All of them have something unique about them.

Yes. You shouldn't have pages with duplicate content or no content on them. Why would someone visit your site if its just an empty page?

Google will crawl your site and find them. As will the other search engines.

Its up to you what content you accept, my honest opinion is that this kind of product or service should pay.

@stoner; What are you on about? Or are you one of them spammers and I've offended you?

Hes far from a spammer - look at the directories in his sig.

He's probably referring it the fact that if someone submits a decent site to your directory that is worthy of a listing, it shouldn't be removed on the basis that it wasn't placed in the right category when submitted.

I see many Quality websites, good PR and Traffic submitted in Main root category. So I think for awhile whether to delete or move them to right category. I do move few but seeing way to many, I think it would be best to delete them.

I don't know why those Quality websites are submitted in wrong category and hired someone who doesn't have experience in this? I find it hard to believe sometimes.

Not being funny Mikey but I couldn't care less what directories are in his or hers (judging by the avitar) reply to mine when it clearly wasn't needed. If he was referring to what you say why not just say that instead of shooting off.

btw; I never actually said he WAS a spammer, I asked the question due to the pathetic reply posted.

Hahah...Jamie you got that wrong buddy

Stoner is one of the top directory owners around (and one of the fewest from his class still to post on DP)

He was building directories when actually there were no scripts, mods or category dumps for that...I mean...full respect for him and guys like him being in the business for about 10 years or so

    :)

Well, I do check every listing and I do spend like 1-3 hours on a daily base, sometimes even more. I do run my directories with a partner and we both monitor the stats and everything that it takes to keep things running and working properly.

I'm more a marketing person and my partner does more of the technical stuff.

    Regards,
    Robert

Is that the fault of the submitters, or the category structure?
