Prayer isn't merely the motions. So the robot is merely moving it's arms around. That's a good one But a robot isn't a real person or even a fake person! It is just an object.
Not all people go through the motions, some are really pious, I guess the robot has a niche for those going through their motions only Wonder how large is this niche though
I agree it is very curious in a humorous way. In some ways it would seem to mock prayer, in that calling this act a prayer reduces prayer to a set of mechanical movements without any comprehension or as you so aptly point out without any devotion. This is on the level of having a robot flip someone off. I guess it shows some technical skill but not much else.
