You don't just go to "Africa" and start doing diamond business. Diamond and precious metals are controlled by corporations (private or state-owned) dealing with established clients worldwide, it is difficult for a nobody to get into this trade.

Don't go there, all the diamond mines are controlled by companies so unless you want to work in the mine for bellow American minimum wage you wont make any money.

Investing in diamonds business is not the same as opening up a local store. Your Competition includes corporations that have been in this business for decades and they understand all their is to it in this business
Its like trying to start a car assembly plant and compete with the likes of GM and Toyota..all the best

Diamonds isn't easy especially the concessions are given to huge corporations, the small traders gets only the bits and pieces of the trade. Given the power of the huge diamond companies, I don't think it is easy, the entry barrier is extremely high.

I lived in the Democratic Republic of Congo for two years and had friends that were doing diamond work. Dangerous as hell. My brother in law had been doing diamonds in Namibia, the DRC, and some other African countries.

They tried to kill him in West Africa. I also know people in Kinshasa who were killed because of diamonds.

I'm from California (SF) and am back now, but I would never mess with diamonds. Morally, ethically, etc.... And the DeBeers guys are like the mafia. Only worse.

There is something about diamonds and especially oil that makes humans behave like monsters..its weired that a country like Sudan has oil reserves but yet its one of the most impoverished nations in Africa..on the other hand Nigeria is one of the big oil producers but the nation experiences oil shortages...
