how to promote my travel directory?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by gingimaster, May 29, 2008.

i own a travel directory (the one in my sig) and for the last couple of months have been buying links on travel sites, placing links on free, paid and bid directories.
at the moment i get about 280 UVs/month and managed to sell a few sponsored links.
    i feel this isn't enough.
how can i promote it so i could get more traffic and sell more links?

    Content is king.

Keep it free for the moment, make it a good resource for the visitors, prove to your possible submitters that it worth submitting because your directory delivers something to their listings. Also...I think you wanna say review websites instead of sell links.
The sell links stuff can get your neck strangled in no time.

As a promotion: AdWords,Banners, get listed in the major directories, get yourself listed on as many travel agencies sites/directories you find,SEO,etc.

Don't just came in here asking how to make money by selling more links because you might end up soon.

i'm trying to work on content
i have a travel agent writing some texts and reviews (cruises).

thx for the tip on how i should present it.
but it is true that i should "review" more paid sites, as i need to promote it more and develop the content

Buy some links from expedia, orbit, etc, and spend some money on the PR5+ and famous directories.

How many links does your directory have?
How many articles does it have?
How much daily traffic do you get from google?

You need to work on those three things, so each time you answer that question the numbers are higher and higher.

To promote your travel directory you have to concentrate on some points :

    1) Content (content is the king)
    2) Look & Feel
    3) Promote through Articles
    4) Do Social Media Optimization
    5) Viral Marketing
    6) Offer some discount
    7) Do organic and inorganic seo
    8)ppc to brand your business
    ..............

    etc

I think doing so you can come up from the dark

    Cheers

As was mentioned a couple of time, I would concentrate on building good content. You then have to keep updating and building new content. That will provide dividends in the short run.

You also need good links. If you need help we provide a travel directory submission service as well as an article submission service.

Top Travel forums, travel blogs, write a good article on squidoo and place your link etc, try Yahoo answers etc..... You can do lots of work with such niche directory.
Concentrate on contents, you can give more resource to user as much as possible.

I am also thinking of getting one unique directory related to travel and I am sure it will be a success with all the hard work I am planing to put on it.
