Opinion on Associate-o-Matic

Does anyone here have experience with AOM - is it worth trying?

It says it is easy to get going but can you really get a shop up in a few minutes?

Is there anything about it you don't like - I have heard in some places about a duplicate content issue on google.

aren't you the chap with your own amazon script ?

Well, i'll just say that i haven't had much luck with it, but some like it

However, I continue using it cos I want some of amazons action without having to develop my own script

Yeh I do have my own script but I am just checking out the other options. I want to get a lot more sites out there and I am wondering if it would be easier just to leave the development side of it to someone else.

The big concern is the duplicate content. Do these sites rank anymore for individual product pages?

I think the script has potential, but that the developer needs to look at what others are doing,

Autogenerated pages from any script are always going to suffer duplicate content penalties, so My product pages generally don't rank too well, however, with more links, more work on content,,,

Question is, is it worth it

So can you change the content for products on aom? That would be useful.

Are there any other decent amazon scripts? I was under the impression aom is the only one worth looking at.

I tried astore from amazon itself, but that was not for me, even tho the aom pages suffer from duplicate content issues, they at least get indexed for you, but astore is free and can be place on your own domain,

There are many things you can change in AOM, try the AOM forum for more info

I haven't given it enough time to get a proper outcome from it, but having paid for the full version, i hope to get something out of it.

The problem with it is it's all encoded (source) and from a developers point of view it makes it a little bit hard to work with. Just decode it and then you can work with it. I personally think they should have a template system in it kinda like wordpress but it's not. Point is, it is worth looking at and it's the only one worth looking at that you can get code for.

How can I get the code for it? I take it they are not going to give it up easily :D

I guess if they had a proper template system then they could encode the rest and that would also keep the developers happy.

So true. This is the one thing that really bothers me about AOM. While the script is great and does what it is supposed to do, the default style options are sooooo 1993, it's annoying.

i had a chat with them about the application of css, and,,,

    well, i didn't get far :)

Having said that, the paid version is a lot cheaper than having to develop one myself,

Thats the big pull, its a lot cheaper than managing yourself. And they will do all the updates, fix bugs etc.

But if you cant get the store looking and acting how you want then it is no good, no matter how cheap.

I really like AOM and the options for customizing the template are as limiting as it seems, if you get creative with it. I've operated a few stores with it and had wonderful success, in part due to using it as a store second and having a blog first. The duplicate content is a concern, but if you choose your niche's carefully and make sure not to go too broad with your ASIN #'s you should be ok.

I totally think it's worth the money, but as mentioned you could check out the free version for yourself to know for sure.

I think you don't know what you are talking about
of course the content is dupe... every site pulls it from the same source - Amazon

SEO of the script only depends on you as it's quite customizable

So can you customise the content on Associate-o-Matic?

e.g. write your own product descriptions.

Yes the ecommerce for everyone does look very good, its just a shame that it is restrictive in terms of they host it.

I need something I can host myself. I dont like the idea of relying on a third party company like that, although I am sure they are good.
