Some of you may remember a post I made a week or to ago about how I needed to monetize a small amount of traffic for a large amount of bandwidth... Well now all of those numbers have increased 10 fold. I was only expecting to do around 700GB of usage the first month. It turns out that I am currently at 2+ TB and the site has been live for less than 30 days. Its clear that im going to need a viable hosting solution as this project grows bcuase its not going to be to long before I cannot maintain it on a intel celeron server lol. What would you recommend for a host. The site is not making any money right now... So far only about $1.10 a day off PPC so I need a cost effective solution that will work well with high volume video streaming. Any ideas.... please post em, just for shits and giggles heres some numbers:
For that kind of usage you only have the option of dedicated. You would need either a 100mb port with 3TB bandwidth (overages are expensive) or an unmetered 10mb/s port (3300gb/month).
suspicious? relax... probably just some video streaming website or something for shits and giggles- go into the "Web Hosting" section of the BST and buy a plan with "Unlimited Bandwith" and just screw with everyone haha in all seriousness- I don't know what to tell you
monetize your site properly and go for a dedicated server, the shared webhosts oversell too much only to get new clients. As i said before , none will pay a dedicated server to host only 1 - 2 people using a lot of resources, they must make profit because is a business , There are some who offer 2TB on shared, is not real. Overselling means only marketing strategy, good for hosts bad for users... in general trust those who offer less , close to the reality
I have began to optimize my earnings. The site has seen a 70% + increase in ad performance simply by switching from banners to text ads. Already up another $8 in the last 3 days. If I can keep this up I will be making a nice profit in no time...
Is it dynamically generated content? How much bandwidth are you using during peak times? You do not have many hits for that sort of b/w so I assume this is a media heavy site. I have used these boxes before to push 8000 GB/month: http://www.zenex5ive.com/hotdeals.php?page=unmetered
He may be getting hotlinked or abused in someway. The traffic is not from real visitors..or some visitors are leeches. He should check out the site, .htaccess file and some rules will get rid leeches and bandwidth/hotlinking thieves.
Nope, video sharing sites are indeed resource intensive. One could earn even lesser than that if the visitors are not targeted.
Only some of the content is dynamic. I use wordpress sort of as a CMS to display the videos with a short description. I have WP-Cache running and it defiantly helps. The next thing I did was configure Apache2 to use the worker MPM instead of prefork. The amount of memory being used (which is only 248MB aval at this time) dropped to 1/3 instead of running with nothing left. This for sure made a huge performance increase on the site.
http://iweb.com/dedicated/unmetered-servers/ is one choice that i would like to but i would like to know which are the best unmetered servers that are there in the industry which is reliable
Believe it or not I may have found a cheap solution. LunarPages shared hosting comes with 15,000GB of bandwidth which for right now will hold me down. After giving them a call they ensured that my adult content and high bandwidth would not be an issue so I am setting up an account with them today. The issue is even though I have my home server running the site pretty well. Because of connection limitations I am loosing about 2000-3000 hits which is lost ad revenue. On another note revenue has increased by 300% + !!! I was getting a little less than $1 a day and now im hitting $3.50 a day no problem... Pretty sweet for my first 30 days Anyone here have anything to say about lunarpages?
You may like FDCservers.net, I get my dedicated server from there from a reseller at www.wdservers.com Unmetered. You could do a couple of terabytes a month and it would no problem. I used 875 Gigabytes this month myself.
A shared hosting solution for that kind of bandwidth? I think that is risky. Just because these shared hosting accounts offer massive bandwidth, they cap you on CPU usage. If your site has grown quickly in 30 days, expect it to grow further. Go to a fully dedicated server. Try to monetize your traffic better. $3.50 a day is ok, but you will need more to cover server and administration fees. Plus it would be nice to make a profit. Good luck.
I cant afford a dedicated server.... not on an 18 year olds salary.... From what I was told this will facilitate the site for a while. At least to the point were a dedicated box becomes a necessity at which point I should be making enough off the site to get one.
It's not an option, it's a must. Which shared server allow one site to dominate and take over most of the resource while others have to suffer ?
