how much traffic can be generated from Yahoo?

had a quick browse in the FAQ at the top of this board but couldnt find the answer.

Basically trying to find out if its worthwhile registering with the yahoo directory -- SEO wise it seems worthwhile but how much direct traffic does it bring in (approximately)?

Also same question for the DMOZ directory (sorry didnt want to start a new thread in the sub board)?

'SEO Wise' it won't really help you - they'll manually edit the anchor text to match your official site name. So unless you're having difficulties ranking for your site name, it won't help in terms of SEO. It can only help with gaining traffic - how much you'll get largely depends on the market and the category you submit to, as well as how many existing pages are in that category.

Dmoz is a dying dog, Google really need to update their FAQ's on that front - they actively promote the submission of sites to the Yahoo and Dmoz directories.

Of course it will. Link popularity helps a great deal in SEO, and links from a strong site like yahoo is great.

Ah, yes, it will help in some form - but the real question is, how much? Who says Yahoo's site is 'strong' and gives any better benefit than just another general adsense-fuelled web directory? Nobody knows what a strong site is, it's a matter of perception, full stop;)

The traffic from the Yahoo directory is fairly minimal these days. Not many people browse through directories anymore.

Yahoo is great for SEO love, and it brings you traffic only on the first day of your listing since you are on the recently added page.

Otherwise if you expecting traffic from that directory, just forget about it. :D

A backlink from Yahoo is worth something. Google recommends submitting to major directories. By mentioning that google is signaling something. ;)

I think you will get more visitors as a SEO effect, and not by Yahoo directory itself.

Surprised both of you have not seen it before. Here goes the link.

Check the last point under "When your site is ready" They mention:

    I take it as a recommendation. :)

I have Yahoo Directory listings and they do not generate any traffic. 0 traffic. Submitting to the Yahoo Directory is mainly for the SEO benefit of an authority link.

Thanks maldives, I have read that one before, I was hoping for a more juicy recommendation instead of pointing to the big 2. :)
