I can't stand watching these anymore. Anytime i see one play I close the browser so they don't credit for the ad view and I never return. The is not how the internet was meant to be. Who is with me?
I agree it's annoying, but the content you want to view wouldnt exist at all if it wasnt making money... And your boycotting wont change anything
Most of the content was submitted for free by users and taken from youtube and their are other ways of making money then making me wait for it to play. So change or not I refuse to do it anymore. When enough people get fed up with it, my boycotting will change everything.
People wont stop using sites like cnet because of the short ads at the beginning of videos. Why don't you boycott TV for having commercials every few minutes? I don't see how this is any different. There is no way to organize an effective boycott like this, internet users are too broad of a population. If you stop watching videos that wont stop people on the other side of the world. As long as the content is worth waiting a few seconds for, people will watch it.
Konrad is right. There is no way to set this up affectively even though commercials do suck most of the time. If you think about it commercials make the world go round without them theres no money to pay for content like someone said before me, and one day if you want to run a successful business you might start to use internet commercials to get the word out about you. Its a small price to pay for all the free content your getting.
Its their way to make money , and every one who has a website does want to earn some amount of money. Don't you want to earn money online. If you do have websites then do you have advertisements ? I guess you must be having a website and then it might be having advertisements as well so think about boycotting because it will not help you ..
It is annoying but that's how they earn. Many cool sites would shut down if they have no means of earning money.
well TV doesn't force me to watch a commercial for each new channel i change to. Also I have tivo so i just fast forward threw commercials. Then I shall build a site commercial free site and set the way.
ever been to youtube.com? It seems that most of the websites that have commercials before videos are websites with unique content that is created by them themselves, and that people are willing to watch a commercial for. If the content is widely available, there is a good chance you can access it on youtube, where as of now, i dont see any commercials. Are you going to try to compete with places like cnet, the onion, or abc news that do this?
I noticed you had ads on your blog, isn't it hypacritical of you to complain about ads on a site and still have them on your own site.
I don't think that he's talking about those kind of 'ads'. I think he might mean something like pop ups or something of that nature.
I have seen the ones he's talking about on a non youtube vid site, but an ad is an ad. And on a side note my son keeps leaving the tv room when ads come on the tv and he comes back when the ads are over, he will just stay out of view of the tv and go back to watching the regular program as soon as the ads are done?
I think I stated this before, but I guess it won't hurt to say it over but ads are mostly the reason why we can have free content that isn't low quality. I can't really complain because I know that the ads are paying my way so I can watch the content for free as long as I get a look at what they are advertising.
i hate internet commerical. sometimes they get a little annoying. but it may be helpful sometimes....thats the positive note
I was waiting for someone to make this comment.. When there is a commercial I'm forced to wait 30seconds to a minute to see the content. So how about I put full page ads on every single blog post and and make everyone wait that long. That would be equal. As I said in the first post there are other ways of making money than commercials were you are really giving no choice but to wait. Honestly what if every page on the internet had a commercial before you viewed it? how annoying would that be and that is exactly what some of these video sites are doing. I'm ok with the banner ads on the videos, I'm not ok with the ones that make you wait.
People gotta make their money somehow man. With the ever increasing advanced popup blockers, it's hard to make any money with regular banner ads. And since video ads currently cant be blocked by any type of software, that means 100% exposure to every single visitor.
When you put it in that perspective I can agree. The inquirer has has a pop up add before you get to the content, and I hit the x every time with supper human speed.
