the main thing is "Why submit to a Directory ???"

    let me explain :

There are two major reasons for submitting to Directories:

    Targeted traffic
    Link popularity

1.Directories have only one 'purpose in life': to provide links to other sites.
2.It is much easier and simpler to be listed in directories than in subject specific sites

Another reason, is why you don't submit. If they won't help, at least they won't hurt your websites.

Directories bring 0 traffic 99.9% of the time

They do very little for search rankings

Like the man said they do something small

The directories are useful in the very beginning of the website's existance. The links you'll get there may make your pr to get equal to 1 or maximum 2. And if your site is a big one they can help for faster indexing.
Otherwise they are kinda useless for developed sites IMO.

For those that know how to submit to directories, you can easily get a PR 3 or PR 4. I have a number of sites that only have backlinks from the directory list in my signature. Many of those sites are PR 4's with plenty of PR on the inner pages.

In non competitive niches, directory listings can easily get you to the first page of the search results. In more competitive niches, directory listings are just a small piece of a backlink profile.

I agree with snowbird. It's easy to get to PR3 or 4 with "directory submission only". That doesn't mean you can build a 1-2 page website and expect such PR. Your website should have good enough content and design for directory editors to accept your site.

    Ok my bad :)
I have reached pr2 max but I suppose that I haven't been persistent enough.

No problems! :) Digital Point is a good community, and through sharing we all learn each day.

Persistence is the key as you noted. But there are some other things one can do to get the most out of directory submissions. I wrote a brief article on directory submission tips if you or anyone is interested. The article is from my perspective as a directory owner, commercial directory submitter, and directory list provider.

    Have a good day!

the final solution is every statistical measurement merely reflects the current status of a site. Some Directories may grow and become world leaders and some may disappear altogether.
