I realise that and I feel bad about it. Hopefully I won't have to put anymore contests up - I am a designer myself and I created a quite few layouts before my client asked me to create this contest.

I only extended the deadline when my client didn't have internet access. It wasn't a ploy whatsoever.

Exactly. I've entered a few contests on here where the OP decides not to choose anyone so I keep the designs for future use.

I'd love to give every single one of you who entered a "lousy 10 bucks" but unfortunately it isn't my money I was playing with. And it was in no way intended to get ideas and then just run and take them. I wouldn't do that. If I was going to get inspiration for a design I'd go to CSSRemix and the like. I know you weren't accusing me of that but I felt it had to be said incase anyone doubted it.

Unfortunately my client didn't give much feedback - he liked the one by Matt B and Imba, but that still wasn't what he was looking for. Personally I liked Matt B, DaveyBoy, raja, and unique-i's best but I think all of these layouts were great and I do appreciate you put a lot of hard work and effort into it.

The design I posted in the first thread is what will be coded with a different colour scheme just to get something up and running as my client has got meetings with pubs and what not for sponsorship and needs something to show them. When the site is coded and running in PHP the design is going to be changed - so maybe at that point my client will give proper feedback to the designs posted here. If he had more time I'm sure he'd have been quite happy to give feedback and suggestions and let the contest run until he found something he really liked, but unfortunately this site needs to be up asap.

I'm sorry to hear that Raja, I know it must be a pain.

My client is a member of DP so I'm sure he'll see your responses at some stage and maybe answer some of your questions.

Again I am very sorry about this.

It is dissapointing but still acceptable . I guess the best way to comfort ourselves is by believing we all lost and of the entertainment we had while doing it . Anyways , cheers to all , and hopefully next time we will be able to put up better designs to impress the contest holders .

    :)

    Damn, this is annoying.

I don't think I'll be entering contests on DP from now on, this is my second contest which I have entered here, and my second problem. If a winner was chosen in which it wasn't me, that would be understandable, I'd find that fair enough but the whole point of a contest is that there is a winner. It's just a total waste of peoples time.

Also, if your client is a member of DP, why didn't he/she run the contest? It would've been nice of him/her to leave feedback, seeing as they're a registered member. Maybe then somebody would've won.

I understand your point Josh and know that this is a frustrating situation. I should've thought ahead and stated in my OP that should my client not like any of them he reserved the right to not award a winner. Alot of contests state this and I do take the blame for not saying so. But to be honest, I thought my client would've found something he liked.

My client did leave a comment on this thread but it wasn't feedback on any layouts which I understand maybe he should have done. He wanted me to post the thread as he'd contracted me for the whole project and thought it best for me to write the description of what was needed and give examples of work I'd done etc.

To be honest I was a little naive in posting this contest because I thought for sure there'd be a winner and didn't expect to have to close the contest with no winner chosen.

Again I apologise for the whole situation and only hope you have better experiences in future contests.

    Hi every one

I am the guy that the design was built for, To be absolutly honest with all you none of the designs posted jumped out at me, I can honestly say that I would not want to use any of them, this was for a PUB QUIZ site and not a poker site ! (a number of designs posted had poker chips, dice or playing cards in them. WHY ? What part of the word PUB QUIZ did people not understand ?) most of the designs posted were pretty much copies of Emzdesgn, can no one come up with an original idea ? I am still not 100% happy with the design that we are going with but I am working to a time scale and I cant sit and wait any longer. The the two websites given as reference were for reference only to give you an idea of the sort of thing I liked. The design contest was kept open by Emz because my CRAP VIRGIN USELESS BROADBAND died on me for almost 24Hrs so i was unable to log on and check designs and because of that the contest was left open for another day, if you have a problem with that blame either me or VIRGIN USELESS not Emz. I thank all of you for taking part but none of the desighs were what I wanted, i personaly feel that little no imagination went into any of the designs.
If you have any questions or insults please feel free to pm me.

And thank you to the person who Emailed me and offered to undercut Emzdesign price for coding the site, My answer F*** OFF. I have a contract with Emz thank you.

    Hi Steve,

To be fair, I thought mine had quite a lot of imagination, the header being a beer mat on a table. Not copied from anyone else. Stuff like that is just what I like really! Obviously not your style though, but hey that's completely fine - as a designer it's to be expected now and then that you don't hit the nail on the head.

    Good luck.

well said daveyboy. I agree. Just because 'layout' might look the same, much can be done with imagination deeper in. Like your's with the beer mat....Personal style... My personal style happens to be placement. I love placing items/text boxes in different ways. Thought I wanted to make the web design still 'professional' looking. Anyway my point is that I liked how i put in my header, 'Ultimate Pub Quiz', but it was going off of the header, Kind of like, Borders are there, but goes beyond the border type of thing... anyway, We must all find the one client that loves our own styles as much as we do. Therefore, LIMITLESS PAYDAYS! hehehe. jkjk. Goodluck to all. And this just happens to be one of those contests that doesnt work out. :)

Wow, good to see a nice professional approach being taken.

The people who entered the contest probably spent the better part of an hour just thinking about what to put into their design to make it better. If they didn't succeed, give feedback rather than just saying that no imagination went into any of them.

Also, could we see the design that you're going with? Might be quite nice to see.

"i personaly feel that little no imagination went into any of the designs"

"can no one come up with an original idea?"

I actually find these comments quite insulting.

Calm down everyone, no need to find anything insulting - just try to move on to another contest, you have another design for your portfolios. If you are so concerned about the prize, maybe try to sell the design in the templates area or to another client on your books? Opinions are a personal thing and everyone is entitled to one. The guy didn't like our designs, it's no big deal.

Just move on to the next contest and forget about this one, easiest thing to do!

@Hecky; I think they are going with the design in the opening post for the moment.

I am not particularly bothered about the fact that nobody has won the contest.

It's just the rude, ignorant remarks which have pissed me off.

This is to all of the people who have PM'ed me asking where to sell their templates :

I wasn't saying there is a particular place to offload your templates but I am saying that in the future you will for sure find a use for your designs. Don't always just sell for a low price. It may even work out for the best. I know that my entry is worth more than $300 and i'm perfectly happy to keep it for as long as I need to before selling it, with changes, to another client. That's how it works, nothing is ever wasted if you manage yourself and your work correctly.

if he didn't like any of the template why should he had to pay $300 for something that he won't use.
