AWESOME e-com platform!! I find Magento awesome to work with, and love it. I think it's blows oscommerce away, if anyone is even still using oscommerce anymore.

It doesn't load slow for me. It's only been out with a stable release for a while, give it a few more months, this will be THE most used e-com app on the net.

Magento is seriously lacking in terms of SEO. Maybe it will be better in future releases.

I disagree; I think Magento is the best e-com platform for SEO. I don't think there's another open-source e-com package out there that comes close to all the SEO features that Magento offers. Search engine friendly URLs, social bookmarking tags, related product links, custom title and meta tags - what else does it need?

That is manifestly inaccurate. At least install the stuff before you jump on it. (did you even bother to read the home page?)
There are those who complain about its speed. I didn't seem to have that issue but also didn't have many test products going.

It seems to have a few glitches but nothing major. You will spend way more time screwing with the downfalls of oscommerce than you will sorting a few things with magento.

It is easily skinable and very well documented. As far as I could see it is fully standards compliant and completely separates style from the logic bits!!!!

It does use some newer technology. I saw some scriptaculous and or jquery stuff going on but this is fixed easily as well.

A few more hours under the hood and I will be using that stuff full time. I was sorta bummed because we just finished a payment processor driver for a zencart gig I just finished. I tried to dump all the data from zencart into it last night but it didn't work(oscommerce migration tool didn't quite cut it for ZC).

All in all that stuff is slick as poop through a goose. Goodbye oscommerce, zencart, and the rest of the peanut gallery for that matter.

I do have it installed in a sub directory. The URL management is triggering massive amounts of duplicate content, especially when products are in multi categories. I created a few products and had over 5 URLs for each product.

This is the only thing holding me back from using it. I agree that it is great software. But this is a major issue.

Hmmph, perhaps they just haven't updated something. The post before yours on the forum goes all the way back to January. I am still trying to fix my admin menu. It worked for about an hour. Now bugzilla is throwing a large number of errors and it simply doesn't work. I have not messed with any js yet. I suspect it lies on some jquery stuff or scriptaculous. I have not had time to poke around.

I was only able to play with a for a bit last night. I need to run through some setup posts first so I know what I am doing. It seems to work a bit differently than most carts.

    thanks for the heads up,
    Nigel

I had that problem with the initial release. I did the fix somewhere in this post and it fixed the issue.

Sweet, fixed! Sorry I hazed you earlier. I have had to chide a few people today but they deserved it lol...

Much easier to test things when the admin panel works.

    thanks again,
    Nigel
