This tip is for those people who are using google analytics for their websites or blogs. If you have a website or a blog and if you are using google analytics to track the daily visits on your blog then i would suggest not to use google analytics.I would suggest to remove the code which you added to your website or blog so that google analytics could keep a track of your visits. This is because when you remove the google analytics code then your site will load faster on different browsers. Now the question is what to use to see your daily visits? You should use the awstats in cpanel.Nothing is more accurate than awstats.Awstats even shows the keywords which different people used to search in google to visit your site.It shows many many more informations.
Yeah. How much of a difference is it? Right now, the data I get from Analytics is extremely useful for me.
I agree with original poster. Why use Analytics when you got everything you already need? (and yes, it increases the loading time by a good amount too, depending mainly on your server)
The newer analytics ga.js is much faster then the old urchin code. Analytics does segmenting which awstats can't do, (or tagging)
Yes! I have experienced this on many websites. When i look at the box at the bottom is shows loading google.analytics...... But i have all ready installed it on soooo many of my pages
I think Google analytics provides much more detailed analysis on website statistics than Awstats hence I would advice to use it instead unless of course your site has slowed down significantly. It is better to have a better web-hosting where this problem does not occur. If you have a wordpress blog then the stats tool from wordpress webste is a good tool.
i find it inaccurate.it counts more then real visitors to your site and those searches, they are how many times your link was viewed in search engines, not how many times your link was clicked.
I agree with theausums, it does add a weight on the load of a website... Really though, if awstats is fine if its just for a blog or small to medium site... google analytics is good for commercial purposes... keeping track on how people are getting to a certain page... say a page where you sign-up for a service or buy a product... for the great majority of websites in existence awstats will do an acceptable job at keeping tabs on visitor numbers and details...
The newer code loads a lot faster and even detects if your page is ssl or not. It doesn't add any significant loading time to any of my pages. and Google and a lot of other companies use it so I'm not worrried. It also provides a lot of info that aw stats does not provide, e commerce, conversions ect....
Google Analytics used to slow down the sites a long time ago. It's much faster now. If you need an alternative - StatCounter is a good one.
I only have experience with Analytics, but I must say that I think it's fantastic. Nobody has complained to me about slow loading times. Thanks for the tip though, I will look into awstats if/when someone informs me about the slow load time.
i think newer GA is much functional then older, and also provides much facilities rahter then any....i dnt knw abt the other, coz im using GA.........
I will Prefer to Use Only Google Analytics or Statcounter. Both are the Best, google has increased more functions to improve quality in web stats. Thanks John
First off, you don't need CPanel to run Awstats. You can run it from the command line or from the crontab. Second, Awstats is written in Perl which is an interperted language and while AwStats may be good for low traffic sites with logfiles under 1GB, it can't handle high traffic sites or sites that are spread across multiple dedicated servers. Analytics is based on Urchin which has been used by companies like Earthlink, Rackspace, Verio, Honda, etc... As seo ranter stated, Analytics tracks conversion goals, has geolocation reporting, tracks Adwords and a wealth of other information. Plus, for those of us running dedicated servers, any processing that can be offloaded from our servers onto Google's is more processing power to handle important requests.
This is some thing where different people will have different opinions. Some one will like some thing which others would not, so guy's what I will suggest is personally using all the services and you can your self decide. IMO I am not going to use any thing from Analytics, IMHO it is good for me.
