Hi, I have setup a proxy and it has grown on its own and now it takes almost all of my server resources on daytime!!! Costing me close to $100 for my Dedicated Server! I am not making money from this proxy yet (AdSense), what can I do to make a few bucks to cover my costs? I can sell advertisements, but is it worth it? Proxy Gurus, Money Making Gurus, Marketing Gurus, etc. - I need your help. Please advice. Thanks, CM
I would go for a good CPM advertiser if you already havent.. Even if you only get $1 per 1k impressions, that is still 15 dollars, which could cover your server costs within a week. I am not sure what good CPM advertisers work with proxies though. I was getting turned down by a lot of advertising networks like Casale on my proxy which was getting around 12k visitors at one point.
Thank you for the suggestions. No I currently don't have any ads on the site, other than Adsense (which I think is against the TOS). Have you got any CPM advertisers to approve you? Where can I get a list of them or something so that I can try to apply. It is a good suggestion.
It's EXTREMELY difficult to find a CPM publisher that will give you 1$ CPM, Especially on a proxy site.
Adsense ads are ok, as long as they are only on any pages other than the actual proxy surfing frameset. In other words no ads above, below or beside the proxy surfing window. On the homepage and informational pages is a fine place to put them. For additional income get a good link rotator script (there are tons of them for free, just Google it) and place affiliate networking ads for internet services (like hosting and other similar items) and CPM ads. If you're really enterprising you could setup another site with Myspace/Facebook content, as that will be a large part of your traffic, and you could flood that site with Adsense units, and recoup your costs for both from that one site. Just a few random thoughts. Good luck!
ValueClick is probably your best bet. Net20 payments I believe and awesome support. You're sure to get accepted with 15k page views. See my sig for the link.
Thank you. I am working on a script to help me put image ads on top of the pages. I could use a free script for sure. Thanks. I will check ValueClick. -------------------- Here is what I don't understand, this is real traffic, thousands and thousands of users coming to the proxy sites, why is it so difficult to make money with them? Is it against the terms of other sites (i.e. showing ads on a proxified facebook page?) Will Facebook sue someone who show ads on a facebook proxy page? I am just trying to figure out answers to the "why" question. -CM
Simple. People go to proxy sites to visit sites they can't visit otherwise. They do not go to proxy sites to see and click on ads. Best once you get 5000 or more visitors to start selling ads. Banner rotator will work and sell banners.
I agree with your first point but not the scond point - people do click on ads if they see something relevant to them. They go to proxy sites because they can't access certain sites directly but if they were to go to those sites directly, they also see ads (those ads costs millions for the advertiser). Which is why I am confused. I am going to try banner ads and see if I can sell a few spots. Anyone else have any other thoughts?
You could try promoting a paid-VPN (tunnel which acts much like a proxy, but far faster and reliable) to visitors.
Join adsense with one of this CPM programs. The first one pays up to 1.80$ per 1000 impressions of popup ( starting site) and the second one pays up to 1$ per 1000 imrpessions of inpage banner (proxified site). With that kind of pageviews You can earn a lot revenue with Adsense + these 2 programs i think
Also, if AdSense is currently not making you anything then tweak, tweak, tweak. Try different colours, border styles, positions, etc. You should be making at LEAST $2/daily with that traffic [using AdSense].
