How can a site with 400 visitors a day have an Alexa ranking of 629,000 and a site with 2000 a day have a ranking of 938,000?

It can, because Alexa sucks. It's stats are not based on real traffic.

lo. thanks. I know a lot of it is webmaster traffic. Its surprising how popular it is considering how unreliable it is.

Alexa is not accurate. There are sites which managed to generate a good alexa ranking by faking traffic

It all depends on what visitors are using the Alexa Toolbar or not.

your alexa ranking doesn't specifically mean that you're getting more or less traffic... lol. they may have you believe that but it's not true at all.

don't focus on Alexa too much, focus on creating good content, structuring your site in an seo friendly manner and update frequently and you'll get the traffic you are after.

In alexa, the more visitors revisit your site with alexa tool installed, the higher your ranking. So, if your ranking are increasing, it means that there are some visitors always visits your site.

i totally agree with the above post.
Alexa rank is not reliable, it is like Pr which are both inaccurate.

It's just people who have the Alexa toolbar installed.

Alexa is lame....though they're supposed to be implementing more ways of guaging a wider variety of traffic in the near future...so hopefully one day they will be accurate.

Virusscan doesn't allow me to install Alexa Toolbar in my desktop. Also, I hate to see Google, Yahoo and now Alexa toolbar fill up the top of my window. May be Alexa and Yahoo are the ones that have to go.
