I have been busy adding links
probally added about 2000 blog links + some high PR direct links.
All have the top 4 search terms as anchor text.

how long after adding a bunch of links does it take to see movement in the SERP ?

You may see an improvement over time, but the length of time is difficult to predict. Be careful not to use the same anchor text in all your links. Just 4 keywords is a little low for 2000+ inward links. This may be seen as link spam. Use more and longer tail keywords in the anchor text.

Add a few links that say Food-Grade Rain Water Tanks. or "rain tanks" or Water towers, Cisterns, or other things that amount to "water tanks". I have been looking into getting one personally, in fact, I'll be getting several... though here in the US, so sorry no sale ;)

I can get a tank for water from many places, though not all of them are food grade, and such a quality thing IS important for someone planning on using such a tank for actual home use! Though, I'd guess that 99.9999% of your customers are likely wanting something to water the hogs or gardens...

Either way, randomize your keywords and descriptions while submitting links to the places you are getting them at. While yeah, you may be getting 65% of your traffic from "water tanks" imagine getting a boost to those numbers because you are pulling in SERP for different words as well?

For instance, what % are you getting for "rain water tanks"? That was the phrase I used when looking up tanks for myself. Well, that and "rain water collection". I'd likely would not even of found your site...and it's exactly what I am looking for (just have a world away, lol) but honestly, the Google I used was the US version... I do not know your SERP.

EDIT: Seeing this bumped in my userCP I noticed I forgot to actually answer the original question and went along with some random tangent within other parts of the thread.... so sorry about that.

How long after adding links does it take to affect SERP? The best answer anyone can give is "depends" as there are many variables within such an answer.
    When was the link gotten?
When will the page it was gotten at be indexed?
When will the next google update be?
    Are there too many links?
    Is the link quality?
    etc etc etc...

Though generally I'd say "up to three months" but, heh, don't quote me on that ;)

May be one to 3 months but if you buy more links than normal Google may penalize you as it can notice a sudden increase in no of backlinks to your site

So plan and build your links naturally

It also depands on which search engine you have been working on. For example, in google Israel you will see affects much faster than in google Uk or USA because the lack of sites.

Is this true? Not using the same anchor text in all your links? I'm trying to optimise for "Poker forums". Should I be doing longer tailed phrases like "online poker forums" or "poker advice forums"?

I've created over 1000 backlinks, most of which have "poker forums" as the anchor text.

Depends on too many factors such as competition, quality of links, spidering frequency etc

Correct, the time line changes on the keyword the competition the bot crawling etc. But it would mostly get done between two updates of ranking on google.

Changes start to appear after about a week by my observation. I've done an experiment on this subject. Doesn't depend on the quality of the links I think (but no doubt the effect from the goodies is greater) :)

I would say several months. I have made a new site and done some link building, but it didn't rank well until several (4-6) months later.

An authority link is a link from an authoritative website. The more authoritative the website is the more authoritative the outgoing links from it are.
    :)
I like nasa.gov for example but when I asked them they told me that i need to give them an alien so they can give me a homepage link.:D

this is definitely true, mix it up, the more the better, keeping to about 50-60% your main term seems to be about right. use the better links with the right text and the not-so-good ones with the variants

You're trying to find an alien for them too huh?

I had a deal with an alien from another planet - he was trying to sell some (no font for this object)
and so I explained that if he let me drive him to NASA so he could just say somethin simple like = "biggie meh"
that i would be able to get NASA's PR 9 link.. and that I'd link to his site to help him sell his stuff.
He agrees and we ride out there in a pickup truck to make it look cliche. about 4 blocks away he gets in back we cover him with a tarp while he practices reading the card that says = "biggie meh"
We get to NASA and pull back the tarp , our alien friend sits up ,big smile and holds up one of his alien products and says perfectly = "biggie meh!" ...
suddenly theres a white smoke fog spraying everywhere and peoples running out of a hangar with them shiny foil suits on ..next thing ya know we're all answering tons of questions , but cant remember what they were since we were all in some form of magnetic ionization sedated cognitive states. We never got the link to NASA ..our alien friend dont like it here now and thinks hiring a blackhat SEO team from Mars would be much easier.

Something to consider when looking for an alien to get a NASA link.

    LOL
My point was a little different.
I have a few aliens at home but I think it is not worth to exchange a whole alien for a single link.
Thanks for the tips but I wouldn't trade my aliens anyway.

I would say a few weeks to a few months.
It depends on the quality of these links and how fast Google notice them.
