Israel has 150 nuclear weapons in its arsenal ( ), former President Jimmy Carter said yesterday, while arguing that the US should talk directly to Iran to persuade it to drop its nuclear ambitions.

His remark, made at the Hay-on-Wye festival which promotes current affairs books and literature, is startling because Israel has never admitted having nuclear weapons, let alone how many, although the world assumes their existence. Nor do US officials deviate in public from that Israeli line. Carter, who has immersed himself since his presidency in Israeli-Palestinian relations, was highly critical of Israeli settlers on the West Bank, and of Israel's refusal to talk to elected officials of the Islamic party Hamas, although he said that Israel's security was his prime concern.

Carter, whose presidency was dominated by the 444-day siege in which Iran held 52 American diplomats hostage, said "my advice to the US would be to start talking to Iran now" to persuade it to drop its nuclear work. But he cited Israel's nuclear arsenal - and those of the US, Russia, China, Britain and France - in arguing that Iran would find it almost impossible to develop, in secret, many weapons and the missiles to deliver them

Of course the Israel lovers (usual suspects) will come on and say that the Jews need these nuclear weapons and can have them because they run the US. The Arabs can't have nukes because Israel tells the US that.

Iran hasnt executed homosexuals since July 23 2005. How much people has Israel murdered since. Iran is 100% more peaceful than Isreal.

People around the world critisize America and Bush for there bad foriegn policies, why isn't it OK to critisize Israel fairly? And send the IAEA to Israel?

 

incase it has NOT occured to you, Israel is occupying Palestine, and treating them like slaves, restricting even AID from the Internation World.

 

iran has said that they are not looking to have nuclear weapons. based on that we should negotiate with them to monitor that. when one has an enemy either have to talk and negotiate peace or you have to try to destroy them. i like the first option better.

 

Iran didn't execute gays since July 2005, she just arrested them for years, so peaceful. and with them the Alcohol drinkers, the rule-resistances, and everything that isn't allow in Islam, ore treating on the rule.
20,000 Jews from 70 million? in Israel there is 1.5 million Muslims. one of them is a minister in the government.
Israel do not want to destroy the "Palestinian" people. if we want to, as you said, why we don't do that? you know we can. "we have 150 nukes".

 

The US arrests drug users, the US arrests many things that could be considered a life style such as being gay, that does not make us evil, even though I disagree with the stance of the government on the issues and the current laws.

 

I don't understand why Israel won't let weapons inspectors in.

 

There are 1,057,800 Palestinians in Israel. Palestinians are 18% of the Israeli population.

 

The way Iran act towards its citizens might not be the best in the world, I do respect their own decisions even if I might be against some of it, but I can't see how these issues you mentioned are the reason why Israel have at least 150 nuclear war head with ranges that can reach much farer than Iran.

Irani people are not dead nation, they revolted against the corrupted Shah, and I m sure if things reached to a degree that they can't stand anymore, they will revolt against the current Government, unlike somebody else whom you know very well they do not need somebody else to do their dirty job
