100,000+ visits in 2 days - Need Advice

I'll keep it short and simple..

I've been experimenting for a week to get some traffic from digg! and I've hit the digg effect successfully, twice this week... These were two different blogs

1 was my own Tech blog and the 2nd one was a wordpress blog.

Now the first time it hit me, I had like 6k+ visitors in an hour and it went bezerk.. Since, I was on a shared hosting plan.. my hosting company couldn't handle it and they had to suspend my website temporarily. 2nd time, I tried this on my wordpress blog and it was a success.. again (50,000+ visitors so far in 1 day and still 15 hours to go)

Anyway, I was thinking of getting VPS or a good host ($40 to $50 a month).. but should I? I mean, do I need to experiment some more before I go for it? Any advice would be appreciated..

Congratulations - look for a Virtual Server first rather than jumping in with a Dedicated Server... that's my advice anyway. You can find Virtual Servers for a monthly fee of around $60...

does digg traffic bring a lot of income? I have a workmate whose site was stumbled and though the traffic was good, the adsense income was not that impressive

for Digg/stubleUpon and any fav programs the best are CPM networks. They paty for impression of popup/banner etc. That's why You can earn every time someone visits Your site, and as we all know - traffic from digg and similar are not much of returning.

So anyway if interested in CPM network check out this list, the first one is the best in my opinion :)

If you are confident you can generate that kind of traffic more, I would say upgrade your hosting first. Otherwise you would be wasting the opportunities.

You could try Dreamhost. Yes it's shared, but excellent quality and you can buy out processor and memory fluctuations for a few more bucks a month, practically buy the server for $230 a month.

Thank you for your suggestions guys. I'm thinking of going for host gator..they claim that I won't have any problem.. anyone knows more?

    Regarding Digg:

    - Digg traffic is not bad! They comment a lot - 85 comments in less than 2 days
    - Massive backlinks (people backlink your article instant)
    - And yes, not everyone joins digg to just stumble the sites, they do click.

P.s: this is a early screenshot of the traffic when it was near 70k+

    Hostgator rocks........

However Digg & Stumbleupon are known not to drive sustainable revenues.

An easy way to make a business decision is what is known as P & L

    Profit and Loss

If the server costs $170.00 per month then you need to earn that much ($170.00) per month, to break even and decide if it was a smart move.

Also don't forget you may earn some nice money from adsenseless initially... but if the traffic does not convert to sales for advertisers Google will smart price your account and you could see a drop in earnings.

    @ Semi-Advance

HostGator claim that they can handle this type of traffic with their $7.95 package. I did a chat with their live Chat operator there.. and for confirmation basis, I asked them to email me the transcript for future purpose :)

    "A Part of that chat"

MoiN: Say, if I get 70 to 80,000 people in one day
MoiN: I was wondering if this package can cover it?
    MoiN: I mean, handle traffic..
Nicole M.: yes we do support that kind of traffic

    Covers VPS? doesn't it =)

Digg & StumbleUpon are good for pumping up traffic stats for a site you're going to sell. Other than that it's really not that great at all.

Yup, that's why I saved / have them emailed me the transcript so in future if something happens like this.. I can get back on their ass!

Yeah, traffic comes and goes from Digg. I've gotten a lot of traffic, but my Adsense didn't do much. Search engine traffic converts a lot better. I don't know why, but it does. I figure with StumbleUpon, while they have some interest, they don't have that much. When I've Stumbled, it's been a wonder where I've ended up.

    Zaahn

just my humble 2 cents worth

That won't do you a bit of good when they tell you why the server is so slow or load time diminished.

They are salespeople first and foremost

The guy in the market does not say,

    "Stinky Smelly Fish For Sale!"

    It's very simple actually

    Consumer Mind

In Digg Stumble people want to read new interesting things . Read does not equate to buy / purchase.

In Search a person typically has intent to purchase at some time.... either sooner or later

And this is why there are marketers and everyone else

    :D
