    Hi Guys,

    I am new to SEO.

I have seen many people asking for backlinks on different freelance portals.

When i need backlinks I just go and post on social bookmarking websites and article directories or forums to get backlinks. I just cant understand why other people are buying baacklinks...... Are these backlinks differ in any way from what I am getting from social bookmarking websites and other sources?

And what is their significance in SEO?

    Thanks in advance for help.

Every backlink is a vote for the site. So... more votes means ... you know what. :)

To improve the page rank, the back links from the similar theme websites and high PR websites are more useful. Thats why people buy back links from other ranked and similar theme websites.

Thanks Mayur, but isnt it possible for them to do bookmarking instead of buying back links?

Links from trusted sites with relevant theme to your site will be more helpful than links from say bookmarking sites or directories. That is why buying links has become essential to SEO. You can survive without it, though. Just think outside the box :D
