Desperately Need Help! Lost My Blog!

Oh my! I have lost my whole blog, admin. panel and all! I changed themes and that's when I got it, a blank page, everything blank. I did this once before a long time ago and techie helped me and I remember it being simple, but I can't remember what he told me to do. I am clueless, I stayed up till 3 am trying to figure out how to get it back, called Yahoo, left a message in Wordpress Support forum, but I have gotten no help, except this message from a member

"Try reupload files into wp-icludes folder and delete install.php file in wp-admin folder." Is this the answer?

I am afraid of messing with the files and stuff in the control panel or FTP without knowing what I am doing, afraid I will permanently lose it all. Yahoo said it was a Wordpress deal, but no one has answered my request for help in those forums. I have an opp to turn in by 1 pm!

Please help me, or tell me where to go besides Wordpress support for fast help where they know their stuff.

This is the link to my blog http://internetmarketingreview.org/blog

The blog is two years old. It HAD pages and pages of google! This is nuts! I just went to Google and you are right! It is not to be found. Great, one more thing to worry about. Now I am really confused. How could that happen at the same time I screwed up my blog?

    Oh, well. IT WAS there.

How do I upload wp-admin and wp-includes? Are you talking about getting it from Control Panel to FTP? Sorry, I am SO not technically inclined.

    Thank you in advance.

I see! I think you should re-install wordpress for that URL. Empty the "blog" folder on your hosting panel and upload a fresh copy of wordpress. However save the following in blog folder:

    1. wp-config file, as you'll have to use same database particulars to retreive the data.
    2. wp-includes folder, in case you want to save the themes and plugins you installed.

    DO NOT delete the database.

I think this should do the job. All the best :)

Thank you for your prompt response, techfired. I feel so helpless right now and dumb, not knowing how to 'empty' that folder in my control panel. The options it gives me at the bottom are : copy, rename, move, move copies, and delete. Should I delete all but the ones you named? As you said, I DO NOT want to delete the database.

You are assisting someone, and I SO appreciate it, that doesn't know squat, as you can tell. I will pay someone, though I don't have a lot of money, I worked very hard to build those blogs, to walk me through this if need be!

I am pretty sure you mean to find a new version of wordpress and download it to my FTP, right?

And how do I get my PR2 and ton of Google indexing back? Or will I? That freaks me out as much as losing my blog!:(

Its still PR2 and will be indexed soon after content is live so that's not a worry.

To make things simple, just save the copy of wp-config file and delete the folder "blog". Then upload a fresh copy of wordpress, rename the folder "wordpress" as "blog", then delete wp-config-sample.php file and copy your wp-config file into the folder and there ya go.

Sounds pretty complex but its simple. No need to hire someone for such simple things.

Many times when you are changing themes and you upload a new style sheet and deleted the old one, the screen will go blank. You only need to go back to the deafult theme in your dashboard. Then once you see your site live, you can go back into the dashboard and click on the new theme. Everything should work then.

not sure if this is your problem but if you were changing the style sheet, I would check this.

if you cant find the wp-config.php it is ok, just open rename the wp-sample-config.php to wp-config.php and change the mysql setting in there.

Hi WisdomTool, I have already deleted the old blog in my control panel and installed the new version of wordpress, named the file blog like Techfired told me to.

I still can't find that file. I hope you are referring to the new version and not the old because it's gone. I will come back and see what your answer is, keeping my fingers crossed, before I do anything.

The new version will have a wp-sample-config.php rename that to wp-config.php, edit it with a text browser, edit the mysql host, username and password, that should do the trick.

Well, at least there is something there now! (I can't post link, haven't been here long enough)

    I replaced "mysql" with "yahoo.com" I don't think that's what you meant.

Which mysql part did you change? In the wp-config? If so, it wont work. Your blog I mean. You should take the info from your database, the name of your database is there along with the database username. For example, if your cpanel username is digital then your database name should be digital_something
username should be the same unless you made it otherwise, either way you'll see it there in the database part of your cpanel :)

st1905 figured it all out and what you said above I believe was part of that.

But I still have a problem that I could really use some help with. It's very odd, what is going on now.

I have a new version of WP. But when I uploaded a new theme into my FTP it doesn't show up in my dashboard, though it's showing up in the FTP. The files were overwritten from what I understand by my great helper, who is sleeping!--and I have been trying to figure out what the deal is. I see that where once the file blog only showed up once, now it says blog twice, though when you try to get to the first one, it reverts to the second one and all the old themes, and I assume, files.

Am I making any sense? Does anyone know what I should do to replace the default WP theme ?

You probably uploaded too many folders deep for the theme. If you extracted the theme and then uploaded the extracted folder there is probably another folder within the folder named the same as the theme... Make sense? No? OK like this.. Newtheme.zip is the compressed theme, you extract that and then have a folder called Newtheme, but inside that folder is another folder called the same (Newtheme). Upload that folder to the wp-content/themes directory on your host. You need to upload the theme folder only one level up from all the themes files.
