I have the same question. I was researching Phpizabi, until I ran into some horror stories of being a resource hog after less than 100 members.

What is a good social networking script that would be able to handle 1000s of members. Yes, I have lofty goals.;)

I have switched to Drupal after many many developments using Mambo. After two or three bouts of near uninstalls it finally clicked. It's awesome! It has exceed my expectations ten fold but MAN is the learning curve steep. The primary reason I used it was for it's taxonomy -- allowing many many related categories, sub-categories and sub-categories of sub-categories etc.

    @ buraqtech
any demo of your script ? user end demo ? admin demo?
    unencrypted?
    any support forum ?
any developer community that will support it in the coming years?

Unless all are yes, I will urge anyone not to go just by any featurelist :)

If you want complete freedom to design whatever you want then check out Modxcms.

Joomla is ok but seems to use up too many server resources and bandwidth

Modxcms is very difficult to learn. But you can try and reach your own conclusion.
Any script, whether Joomla or not, can consume resources if you have plenty of concurrent users and plenty of modules/plugins while at the same time your available cpu resources ( as in oversold, cheap shared hosts ) are low :)

I'm not aware of it being resource hungry, but the core does have over separate 3,000 files... while in comparison Drupal has only just over 400...

joomla defines 'resource hungry'.....it is a hog when your site gets to be big.
