    Look for anti spam modules.

    Without knowing the forum software it's hard to advise you.

    Install text verification during registration. Would stop most of the spam bots.

    That just made it more difficult... Bots can be stopped mostly but humans tend to find ways around the anti-spam filters...

    20-25 are too much, they will spam your forum as well.

    If you do that then many people will also be restricted.

    Mine is a new forum but no humans are spamming.
    I have many spam ids registering.
    At the moment I need them to increase the member count. :D
    So for the time being, I have not enabled e-mail verification and capcha.
    Will deal with them once I have enough "human" members :)

    For your problem also I suggest to do the following:
    Do not to ban them.
    Create a separate group called "spam bots" ( like what I have done ) and give them only "guest" role.
    Do not display the group in the forum legend.
    That might help.

    Banning them will decrease the member count.
    So try to keep them with wings clipped. :D

    A forum with a lot of members and no posts is almost worse then only a few members and a few posts. Nip the problem in the butt before it even begins. Enable CAPTCHA and email verification from the beginning. The "newest member" named steve33423 is better looking then Viagra_Now and when Wanda812 checks out the board, she may be more willing to actually join if she does not see a spam name as it's last member...

    Setting them into their own special group may help, but on a more practical level, set up a promotional system where a member must post an intro, or have it set up so that any and all members need to post once or twice before they are allowed to post links. While the human spammers may get through, they often will not stick around to reach the minimum postcount to be able to link.

    Yeah, the Nokia spammers may still bother to post (as most don't care about links) it'll certainly hinder those just wanting a link...

    Though, I guess such things are dependent upon what forum platform one is running. This certainly works for default vBulletin...

    Use word filtering...

    Like if someone enter drug then it will replace it to ****

    If someone is adding same url then add that name in word filtering and enter **** or something which may change the whole meaning of his spam post...

    By this you will need to ban some people for some days but later when they dont find any benefit in posting then they will automatically stop it :D

    Thanks

    Say someone is spamming using these IDs:

    @abc.com
    @xyz.com

    So now you can ban anyone who uses these e-mail suffixes...

    *@abc.com
    and
    *@xyz.com
