All thanks to all you respected members who suggested this valuable facts. I really appreciated it.

I would also like know is there any chance of turning a directory into Search engine? If there is, what is there??

    Thanks again!

Actually I have no immediate plan but might be in future. I like to get the idea how directory can be made good for selling after sometime. So for that I am taking as many hints/suggestions as I can.

Additionally I think there is a need of something more than just links in a directory to make it more quality. It could be News, resources, blogs, forums etc.

What I like to ask is if I add some Blogs as news & resources in my directory, would be it consider as sitewide link or paid links in the eye of Google? I mean how does Google verify a directory if it has something to offer like blog links, forum links, article links etc that gets updated every week?

    Thanks in advance.

The search function of a script is the search engine of the directory. Or did you mean external searching?

A directory can't really be mixed with a search engine. Its humans vs robots otherwise.

I think done well, a search engine feature could be a great asset to a directory. I had looked into adding Google's custom searching to Crafty Tips. That way if someone wanted a crochet pattern for a snood, they could do a closed search of the sites listed and see if any of them have one. I opted not to because it did not allow for how I wanted it done and had way too much Google branding on it; though the idea is still on the things to do someday list.

Sure, it wouldn't be as complete as doing the same search on Google, but the searcher would know that the results list would actually contain patterns rather than sites that just talk about crochet or snoods and would not list sites that sell ones manufactured in China or someplace.

I think it's a killer idea for the right directory and I hope one day the script owners or mod programmers see its value and develop something. I would use it.
