So, the time has come where I must start a top sites bidding directory. I would like to know if anyone has any experience with these two scripts? Preferably would like to get feedback from someone who's used both. What are some features? Which script is best? Thanks in advance!
Just out of interest - what are your reasons for doing so? Why must you start a bid directory in particular? I personally would go with phpLinkBid because it is so straight-forward, though I have not actually tried phpLD +Bid, nor have I ever even heard of its existence, to be perfectly honest.
phpLinkBid. Why? Its packed with features. Often being updated. Many templates, mods, etc - large userbase. It was built with a bid directory in mind - not converted like phpLD was. I have a job on the support desk to help you out at any time
Some good reasons there Mikey... are there any features in particular that differ from the PHPLD script? "Must" can be interpreted in many ways. Although, not a "must" like food or water, I generally like to start my threads off strong as I do not start too many of them. Also, have a pretty strong plan and domain name for a bid directory, and would like to pursue the idea. Anyone else with experience of both scripts? Thanks!
Ah okay, I just wondered what your intentions were of having a bid directory over a general, day-to-day type directory.
I'm using phpld for directory and i have a separate phplb license for my bid directory. I never had any issues to request support. I also need to point that never had problems to request support. I'm satisfied with both scripts. I also tried the phpld 3.3 on some of my directories and looks pretty good, but I keep "living" on phpld 3.2 as this looks like "first love" for me It's up to you if you want to mix the phpld with bidding. Good luck!
I like the directory in your sig if that’s what you're talking about, but I was referring to the phpLD + bid version of the script. It's different than a general phpld directory.
Thank you for feedback! That directory has some extra MODs installed! There are plenty to choose for your directory.
werewe12, I have tested out all three of the current bidding scripts which are available (I am currently writing reviews for my blog on Bidilicious) so I have some first hand experience... however I have only ever run phpLB in a live environment. Personally I would not consider phpLD + Mod to run a bidding directory. In using the mod I found it to be rather hashed together and not very well thought out. It could have been so much better than what it is if more time and effort had been put into it. The problem here is that they are taking a good quality script and trying to turn it into something that it wasn't designed for, it ends up being a bulky and overwhelming system. phpLD is a good script and it is the only one I would currently use instead of my custom solutions when it comes to a general directory, but a bidding system it is not. Both phpLB and LBS were both designed for the purpose of link bidding, they are much more lightweight than phpLD + Mod as they don't come with all the unnecessary features that never get used. LBS being a free script usually implies that it would be more popular, however this is clearly not the case and this is largely due to the fact that you have to register on their forum to get access to any kind of support, mods or templates. This is something which bugs the hell out of me, it's not like I don't have 50+ other forums now I need to register to another one just to download a template. The only bonus I have found is that they offer a free install service, but how good this is I honestly couldn't say. phpLB is more popular despite it having a price tag attached. It is by no means the best in terms of quality programming, but it functions and it does it's job. The reason for it's popularity is due to the large number of templates and mods (paid and free) which are available. Also the market share based on the bidding directories listed at Bidilicious is as follows: 91% phpLB 3% phpLD + Mod 3% LBS 3% Custom Developed Scripts Obviously I don't have every single directory listed, but I think the numbers speak for themselves. So in my opinion, use phpLB.
Thanks Silky, Ill be trying phpLB. Ill let you know when my directory is live; so you can add it to your list .
