Does Joomla or other CMS Hurt SEO?

    Hello,

I am trying to use Joomla on a new site. It seems like the code produced by the CMS tool is easy enough to pick up on when it is online. But, does it hurt the SEO in any way using something like Joomla? If so, is there a better tool for somebody who wants to do some of the more complex things that the tool provides and can't actually code :) ??

    Thanks!

I don't like Joomla a lot, but usually CMS are good for SEO.
Take WordPress for example. It's one of the most SEO friendly CMS ever!

    Hi,

as far as I have seen joomla does not have great reviews for seo although you can obviously alter the html yourself and ensure you have great content,

Joomla is perfect for SEO. We have done loads of sites with joomla - all highly visible in google. Even without SEF enabled.

Depends, if you have the technical ability to make the changes to the backend that are nessessary then Joomla is an excellent CMS, I personally however build static web pages and use php includes to inject sitewide objects into all the web pages.

Joomla is great for basic sites but I would steer clear if you really want to make money from your website as it is not really optimised for search engines, unless you can programme in which case you can alter the code

To assume you can't make money from sites running the Joomla CMS is incorrect and flat out mis-information at best. Revenue comes from quality content that convices visitors to purchase or sign-up for something, not how well optimized the web pages are. Some of the most profitable websites get less than 10% of their traffic from search engines.

Thanks for all of the comments!

Regarding Drupal -- do they have a lot of functionality available as well?

I prefer drupal because it tends to be a bit less bloated.. loads faster for the most part.

Drupal has a lot of things.. but not everything.. but neither does Joomla.

BTW: I used to use Joomla until quite recently...
