How do you get your website to rank higher for specific keywords (i.e - web hosting, shared hosting)?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that... you say that I should have my link placed on high page rank websites with the keywords like Web Hosting?

 

Getting tons of backlinks from related sites for those keywords would do the magic

 

How do I get all those backlinks though.

 

start by submitting your website to directories and also do write and submit articles then why don't you change the link in your signature to use the anchor text (web hosting) instead of the URL, and request blog review free / paid then consider buying some high PR links on related hosting websites, and keep doing that and then loop back to the beginning...

The anchor text link is the best way to gain backlinks. But building backlinks in blogs and forums with keyword phrases will gain page rank also but it will be slower.

Carry the keywords in the anchor text of your signatures in all forums and try to be active everywhere. Make a blog dedicated to hosting, write quality articles and posts so that people link to you. Try to spread the word in general you know, you'll get your rank that way pretty soon.

 

Write lots of articles. Update as much as you can. Get tons of relevant back links.

Footer links must be avoided. Google don't like them anymore.
Go for in-content links for maximum SE boost
