Microsoft XP out of Windows from June 30

If you are planning to buy a computer with Microsoft’s Operating System (OS) XP, brace up to shift to Vista. Microsoft XP will go off the market from June 30. Buyers may gripe about the additional investments in new hardware for the Vista OS, but not much choice for them. Vista will come pre-installed with their branded machines. Ditto for enterprises, and they will have to spend time and money in training employees on the new software.

About a year back, Microsoft announced that Windows XP would be going off the market from January, 2008. XP was later given an extension to June 30. That deadline is approaching and Microsoft insists that there won’t be any more extensions.

Microsoft India Windows Client Business Group director Prasanna Meduri told ET, “XP will seize to exist. Though there is a policy for specific segments, XP won’t be available for OEMs and general retailers from June 30. For system builders (assembled market), there’s an extension of six months. And for new market segments like low-cost PCs (priced below Rs 20,000) XP will be available till June 30, 2010.’’

Basically what this means is, if you plan to buy a low-cost computer, you can get XP (the hardware won’t be robust enough to run Vista’s various features) till 2010 and if you buy an unbranded machine you get XP till January 31, 2009. But if you buy a branded computer that costs more than Rs 20,000, you will have no choice but to take Vista. Interestingly, the low-cost PC for which Microsoft has extended XP availability till 2010 comprises less than 5% of the market.

It is not unethical, this is part of business, Microsoft spends so much developing Vista, of course they want to sell it. XP remaining will just cannibalize the sales. They definitely need to end XP so that existing XP users switch to Vista for Microsoft to earn recover their R&D costs and earn a profit. This is pure business.

Yes, thats was eventually going to happen one day or other. This is all business strategy as mentioned by wisdomtool to boot Vista sales.

Good news however is Microsoft will continue to support XP till 2010 ;)

Agree, XP after so many years is as secure as any other OS in Microsoft arsenal.

I agree. It is the only way to move technology forward. How else can anything get better? Anyway, it would be stupid for Microsoft to continue old operating systems when new ones are out - They would need staff and support teams which would be extemely costly.

Microsoft hasn't reveal anything on that yet, I guess it is to keep users in suspense :) Good way of marketing too.

I've upgraded to Vista a few days ago.

It's not that bad. It runs better than my XP ever did.

    I'm using it with SP1.

I bought my laptop when I came to China and of course, it came with Vista in Chinese. I don't read nor speak the language so I asked the store to sell me an a version in English which they didn't have. The technician had an old copy of XP so he installed it to my computer. The thing is, it's not legal and I feel bad using it.
I don't want to spend money on Vista since I am comfortable with XP and have used it for years. My question is, is there anyone out there who has given up his XP and would like to sell me your Registration Number? Would this be legal or do I need to spend money to buy one from the stores?

If it's possible to buy off from someone, please give me some offers and how is it possible to pay you. I am a verified Paypal account holder and can pay via this means.
    Please help!

With his fortune, even if his shares drop to only 1% of their original value, he will still be richer than all of us here.

XP's product life span seems to be over. With Microsoft's mission to stay ahead of the game its quite understandable that XP would no longer be available. If change is for good, we must adapt it. Vista is way better than XP, less buggy and more secure.

Knew this quite some time ago, just don't know when is it. Ahh finally the majority-support XP has to be wiped off.

I agree with Cchetanonline Xp is less resource hungry than Vista and from what I have seen Vista crashes a lot. Just my personal opinion guys.
