I pulled this off of my blog, because it's seems like the most interesting I've written. It's about a new electric car infrastructure that an activist is trying to set up by 2010. I'm pretty sure it's not old news, since it was on the radio yesterday, but if it is, then I apologize. Also, if anyone has any other information about the subject, than perhaps they can tell me. I'm not really sure of any of the names, and details, just the basics. I heard about a new system that is going to be put into play for electric cars this morning. This system really sounds like what is going to get people to switch to electric cars. First of all, it will be much cheaper than the current situation with gas cars. Second, it is totally environmentally friendly, the electric cars don't give off any emissions, and the batteries are reusable. An Electric Car How it Will Work: * The company will be charging much like a cell phone company charges. * You will get your electric car for free, and then pay maybe 200-300 dollars monthly for a certain amount of mileage. (You will be charged for mileage, instead of minutes). * Recharging your batteries will be free, you will drive into an electric-station (instead of a gas station). You will drive inside of something much like a mechanical car wash. Then, your old battery will automatically drop out, and a new one will be inserted. * You can then continue driving, without having to pay for anything other than membership. The batteries are rechargeable, so they are reused and put into the next car once it is ready. From what I've heard, the first stations will be set up in Lost Angeles, and San Francisco by the year 2010. The company that is doing this is called something like Build a Better Planet, but I'm not exactly sure. The company was created by an activist that obviously wants people to start using electric cars. He makes the capital, while saving the environment, and saving the US economy. Why it's Good for the Economy: Right now, the US is forced to buy oil from other countries, and we're in a somewhat economic depression. We are very dependent on the oil supply, so we continue to spend oodles (alot) of money on it. As we funnel our money into the other countries that produce the oil, we become more and more poor. Apparently we don't have anything of equal value to trade here. So, once people switch over almost-completely to electric cars, the demand for gas will go down, and so will the prices. Our country will stop spending all it's money on gas, and boosting other countries economies. It will cost a lot less to drive around, and eventually the gas car will be antique. I'll be looking into this project more, and trying to find out ways to donate, because I'd really like to see this get done. Anyone else?! http://vitalpixel.com/you-will-drive-electrics/
i probably wouldnt drive an electric car. because what if electricity ran out one day? or what if it black out and no electric? then i would be in big trouble.
The electricity is stored in the batteries... It's not like something that is constantly plugged in. Unless your talking about something like an emp from the matrix (electro magnetic pulse which shuts down all electronic things in the area)
Thank you for the detailed post. Electric will certainly be better. Imagine how much gas money we'll save!
I wish they made hybrid like trains. Small engine drives generator that produces electricity for electric motor to propell car. They can get 80 to 100 mpg and some people have made some. When you run low put a few gallons of gas in tank and your set for a long time.
cars are becoming more and more dependable no matter what type of fuel they use nowadays. Electric cars themselves have been around for a while, they just aren't very practical because their isn't really anywhere to fill up. That's why this is so cool
That is a new concept. I never read or heard of that before. I would love to get my free electric car. I won't mind paying the monthly charge for the miles I drive.
yea, I think that's the coolest part. Getting the car for free, and paying monthly however much you would've spent on a regular gas car.
Today’s main problem related to electric cars is battery related issues. Batteries are still heavy, big and cannot hold charge that would be enough not to be restricted to be near charge stations. But times are changing are very soon those issues will be resolved, of course if big oil company allows it.
I think we should be worried that gas would ran out rather than electricity. Have you seen Tesla Roadster? I love the car.
like bangalore said the batteries are one of the main problems. Also, none of the big companies really want the switch to happen either.
Yea this would probly not happen as soon as 2010.... I wonder how long it would take to charge a Electric car?? -Chris
Shhh! don't say we are in economic depression, Bush does not agree with that. Thats a good option for sure. Now there are tons of gas stations. It gonna take lot of time making them equiped with the new system. But yes we have to start somewhere. I would buy one, only if there is enough charging stations.
