I am thinking about buying an anti-virus software for my new computer.

And of course, I am looking for the best.

Can you please give me your opinion?

    Thanks

    Jens

I have heard a lot of good things about Kaspersky as well, but...

Do you think Norton and McAfee are the top 2?

I would first suggest Bitdefender (Probably the best) second I would suggest Kaspersky or maybe even trend micro(either of these two would work almost as good).

Are free just as good as the ones you have to pay for (Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky)?

Personally I would purchase your antivirus. You can't rely on any free antivirus software there only good to an extent.

Free is always free, but it's good enough! But If you buy, go for something good.

With a free scanner you're safe, try Avast! or Avira AntiVir
Don't forget a firewall (more important)

Most free antivirus software don't include E-mail, Internet, firewall, protection. Also, most of them are annoying and won't find or solve most problems. But if your not caring much about E-mail, ect. Free antivirus software is ok(AVG,Avast)

I do care about my e-mail and a firewall would be great as well.

I have been looking at BitDefender, and it seems to be a very good one.

I actually didn't know about this one, thanks!

DOnt listen to the crap at the top of the page.

NOD32 is the best paid solution.

TBH AVG is crap. Gor for Avast if you want free as it is the best free solution

Been using Zone Alarm for years now and not had any problems. Pretty good for a basic user or a more advanced user and if you get the suite, then you get Spyware, AntiVirus, Firewall, Email protection, IM Protection, can hide your IP sometimes etc.

    Pretty good all round.

i have norton. but im not really happy with it. i think i would try other software and compare them. it wont hurt to try a few first. i wouldnt stick to one. you will never know which one is the best. there should be a trial version.
