That's pretty funny. I've heard of people selling their sigs, but I've never heard of people selling forum backlinks?

They have a package that includes them creating an account here (forums.digitalpoint.com) and they will post here with your site in the signature so that you'll get backlinks on the forum.

Yep. This is becoming farily popular. I've one guy literally on all the forums I frequent and he is there.
After checking out some of his sites and doing a little research I saw he was doing exactly what you talking about.

Money - where there is a will there' a way!

    LOL

This has become very common and people who have reached over 1000 posts have left this in their signature space

    "Space Available for $5/month" :D

well, it's a service right? sure he's making easy money but it's saving his client the time it takes to post to the forums to get their own backlinks... hilarious.

DigitalPoint is PR7 now so that's not a big surprise.
The signature links are DoFollow and that make them perfectly for link packages, etc. :)

You mean creating 'new' accounts ( and I guess multiple as well)? Sig link sales are okay but selling accounts is definitely not encouraged. This will degarde the quality of the forum and can lead to increase in number of scams.DUH!

Don't know what's stopping such people from creating blogs and making money.

But creating 'new accounts' specially for this purpose isn't the right way....

No wonder DP is getting more clogged up with junk, if spammers are abusing it. I hope DP locates them quickly and terminates their accounts.

Selling signature space is easy money, however, it's not a lot of money, especially when one considers the time involved in making the most of their signature space. Many people that are selling sig space simply have some extra room as they are only promoting one or two sites themselves. Others however, are posting simply for the sig sales and the funds that can provide.

The going rate USED to be a penny per post, however, with the flood of people selling such space the price has gone down.

For the seller, it's "get what you can take" however, much more consideration NEEDS to be had by the buyer, as they are getting what they pay for. Paying for a a sig link that has little or no content to the posts they are attached too will do LITTLE for the site in the sig, as the biggest benifit of a signature link is the HUMAN traffic, not the bot traffic, and certainly not the PR, as most threads here are unrated or have a PR0 (note I did say MOST). Sellers would be wise to follow the steps provided in this thread... as that will help them make the most of their ad real estate.

Buyers need to be a bit more prudent in who they are buying sigs from, and if they are they will see that the return on their investment is must more satisfying.

Buying sig links? Read this first!

Is a thread I started to help the buyers... the main point in it is that quality should outshine quantity, as other members and guests are far more inclined to click on a related link in someones sig that has just posted something worthy of being read. Sig links attached to posts that offer little to no content, or are in forums unrelated to the signature will rarely get clicked by a human.

Paying for a sig link to get a site indexed is not worth the investment, unless you can get someone with MANY posts for only a buck or two. Likewise, sig links for PR will not offer much juice, as like I said, most threads offer no juice to give. While there is power in numbers, the money spent for a month on a decent post count could be better served by simply buying an actual link from a page with PR.

So it's the HUMANS that the buyers need to be aware of, not the bots or even the numbers... however, if there are high numbers that certainly does not help, so long as there is also quality.

I don't think it will go down well with the admins and mods as it really invite a lot of unnecessary posts in order to monetize a thread especially if the thread has PR.
