Guys, need your help with my ads.

I know my content is not keyword rich, but what on earth am I doing wrong?

I've been making websites for ages, but never played with ads. I can't even go out for lunch on what I'm making!

All advice is helpful right now. :)

    Edit: That's 40,000 page views.

provide facts if you need help:

    1.
40'000 UNIQUE page views ? PER day/per months / per year

    2.
how many unique VISITORS in same period

    3.
how many bots in same period

    4.
    site name ??

    finally
for all details like colors, ad schemes, formats, placements - e had plenty of MOST extensive earlier threads during past 2 years - they ALL are still fully valid until these minutes.
use forum search for such details

Many things come into consideration when playing with google ads. For starters implementation, content, and also visitors themselves are my top 3 most important considerations.

Implementation- Try to implement your ads where they attract the viewers attention rather than the site content itself. Try placing it on top of your content not the bottom.

Content- Not much to explain. Just have unique content, and adsense will basically do the work for you. lol.

Visitors- Depending on your site, your visitors may be "ad blind" meaning they are so use to seeing ads that they are now experts on avoiding them.

If this is the site from your sig (quite nice btw.) then you should work on ads placement, which is not optimal at the moment. But hey, don't expect to much, if you reach 3% then you should be very happy.

Hey grg your avatar makes my eyes water. I think I'm seeing double!

    1. Yes it's the one in my signature
    2. 4000 unique visitors
    3. I have no idea how to tell what are bots, but in Google Analytics I can see about 3000 of those UVs from about 5 sources.
    6. No traffic is paid
    7. Page bounce rate at 40%

They're hanging around, just not clicking. Thanks guys for the advice, but was looking for anything specific to my site since it lacks the keyword rich contnent and the layout is sort of rigid in ad placement (unless I want to make it look like it was made by an 8 year old).

    Any other ideas?

My CTR is absolute crap as well.

What percentage of your readers are repeat visitors? Also, how many pages is each visitor checking out?

My CTR dropped the more popular my website became because the regular visitors started ignoring the ads.

At first I didn't even see your ads. I say put a 336x280 ad without borders within the post above the content. Also make the adsense links blend in with the blog's links. You need to fix your blog's CSS, in IE the blog's content is dragged all the way down to the bottom of the page.

    dcoops,

Try using text ads, not image ads. From what I've seen so far by browsing this and other adsense related forums, very few webmasters like the image ads, as they don't pay. Just experiment.

I see you're using Wordpress. Maybe you could try finding some Wordpress extension (I hope there is such an extension) which lets you fill one of the twelve spots (with the template thumbnails) with adsense ads. I would put adsense in the first row on the left.

I am learning, so please report back and tell me if my ideas helped! :D

    Good luck!

    Edit:
Yes, same here in IE... In Firefox all is fine.

The Google Adsense 4/5 links at the very bottom will do absolutely nothing. Put them underneather the tagcloud and/or underneath the search box. Maybe implement Google Adsense Search. Also, uncheck image ads for all of your campaigns, unless you have an image based website, image ads are crap.

Change the teal background to maybe a tileable image that will leave a lasting impression on your visitors. Make it look more professional.

The only thing i can tell you with ads on a website is: Don't be afraid to show them.
There is a point where you have to choose between a good looking website and a website that brings money.

You might have heard about people who said they saw their earning double overnight after movings ads. Well it happened to me too. You want people to see your ads, don't hide them at the bottom of your pages. Try to blend the ads with the content of your website. Also i suggest to use both image and text ads. Try things and you'll find out what is best for you!

No meta keywords, no meta description, how will Google show the right ads to your audience???

I went to your site and I get an image ad of fingerprint doorlock ad.

Add some keywords and description to the meta tags.

Then, add about 100-150 words below your menu. Something to welcome the readers and talk about what you website is all about.

It will help get some targeted ads to your page.

Funny you say that, when I had a "Powered by Wordpress" link down the bottom I had 600 exits to it. I figured if I could funnel some of them through Adsense, great! No luck though.

Hey just letting you know I've edited the homepage:

I've moved all ads above the fold.
I've fixed the IE CSS problem and validated the page.
I've replaced the big image ad with a text ad, and moved it up the sidebar.
I've added a little intro paragraph, meta description and keywords.
I've added alt="" to all my images.
I've removed the RSS feed icon and replaced it with a text link. Unfortunately google still thinks my site is about RSS feeds though :(
Do the ads served change depending on the content of the page, or on the page google has in cache?

Well, I'll let you know how I go.

    Still to do:
    Optimize the post pages.
Add 3 articles for more content - just so Google knows what the site is about!
