Getting visitors are very important.. what can I do to let them RETURN?

    1) Add this site to your favorite / Add this site to your homepage

    2) .. *your turn* ..

    2) Great content.

In fact if the content is so so or bad, the visitor will never return, no matter what you do ;)

I hate websites that offer "Make homepage" as it's so unrealistic, why I'd want www.randomwebsite.com as my homepage when I could have google or a news provider which I imagine most people have. My opinion of websites that offer the homepage is usually that the webmaster is outdated and doesnt know what they are doing.

    3) Update content (can be as simple as a poll that you do weekly), but the more content changes the better

    4) Newsletter - I have never sent one out but have a newsletter with 3,000 people signed up to it, so I retain the ability to instantly contact 3,000 people. It has taken 2 years to get that amount, but add one and let it sit around and then send them out for big website changes or holiday periods.

I run a Vbulletin Forum - when a member signs up and then does not return:

    1. 30 days after their lst log in they get a reminder email asking them to return.

    2. every 3 months after the first email they get a reminder email asking them to visit the site again.

    Videos section:
One section of my forum that gets a lot of traffic is the videos section. Guest can go into that section and spend hours watching embedded videos from youtube and other video sites. Since my site has a certain "nitch" only certain types of videos are posted.

    Members made videos:

We also have a member made video section. Only videos made by members can be posted in that area. So when guest gets into the member made videos section, they see and hear the real members of my site.

The member made video section helps bring the community together. Instead of just reading text, you get to see the persons face and hear their voice.

You pretty much said it right there.

But go the extra mile by adding more to it. It's too generic, which is why not as many people will do it. They look at it for a splt second, and then move on.

Get them to ACTUALLY think about it, talk to them like a friend who is right there beside you. Something like: "Did you like this page? Put it in your favorites, bookmark it, or just write it down so you can come back later on. Go ahead and do it right now."

And, of course, having good content.

You don't know if it is good enough? Get others to look at your site.

    That's it.

I think content is the king to do marketing. If you have a great site with good content, i bet they will return by remembering your address. That's what i do.

Also, you can add refer to page, if they like the site, they might refer others to it.

i do a manner of ways. I try and encourage by offering them lots of free stuff to

    sign up to news letters,
    subscribe to rss feed
follow me on Twitter <-------- this is so rad
add me as a friend on face book
provide a free video for you tube and recommend they subscribe to the next
start a poll (they may come back )
Include an E Card feature to your site - I have and it does really work

Ideally you want them to complete your call to action so use informative graphics to do this too.

there are so many ways to encourage people to do stuff when you think about it................ see sig for example for the best stuff

Nice, gringo. Now that's thinking outside the box. Love the look of your video on your site.

What's your url(s) that has these?

    Some more ways to it...

    1) Add some good resources to your site - give them something to bookmark your pages in their browsers (or del.icio.us or ma.gnolia). They'll keep coming back for reference, and they'll also refer them to friends.

    2) Add an "Email this" plugin, so that they can share it with friends. That will get you more staying visitors. Heard somewhere that people like the "Email this" plugin more than the "Bookmark this" one.

    3) If you have a decent enough readership, ask them for what they want to see on your site, take the good thoughts, and give them a bite once in awhile - good way to get users back and also to find topics for your site.

Gringo, that eCard idea is beautiful. If I call you "innovative" after Perry's remark, you could be the next IBM, per se :).

Its just like a restaurant. they return because they get value and revisiting makes sense to them. Just make like a restaurant or a mall.... place good content

yes the best way is to give people something to come back for sweet and simple, there is an over abundance on the web of everything and anything so giving people value is the key if you deliver that continuosly people will be loyal and come back in droves, definetely start a video blog or newsletter, etc give away good free valuable reports and secrets, etc
