Just thought I'd let you guys know the success I've had with Wikipedia. It's an avenue I didn't think would be worth much but it's actually brought me allot of success. Basically I have links on about 5 pages to relevant articles. I get about 70 hits a day from those combined and while it's low quality traffic it's certainly better than nothing (I've interlinked those articles with links to other pages on the site to try and lure them in). It doesn't improve your PR at all I don't think but the neat thing is that loads of people use the content from Wikipedia for their own sites, or even just the links. I've gotten about 7 link-backs that way in a couple of weeks. Just thought I'd share it as it's been helping me out and it's free and easy!
Hmm.. Thx for the news Monkey. How did I not think of this before... Aha.. This post is truly a eye opener.
Just bear in mind the "Things you cannot do" includes: "Advertising or promotion of a business or non-Wikipedia-related organization (such as purely commercial sites or referral links)".
I don't think it really matters, if people are spamming or posting up irrelevant links then they will soon be removed... and if somebody has a relevant article of website that would be of interest to Wikipedia readers then why shouldn't they post a link up?
Yeah I've had links removed in the past (and I got a message once from Wikipedia) but those ones were clearly pushing it a bit. So long as it's relevant and useful they seem to be left alone. For example there's a guy called Joe Eigo who's a great gymnast/extreme martial artist. Kindly he did an interview for me so I put that link on the Joe Eigo page of Wikipedia. That's an example I think of a useful link that no one would move.
Like you have invented something that people would be interested in. Topics like 100 ways to make more money or Why Naruto killed himself won't matter. If someone is interested, he/she will put yours.
