I think first you need to work hard on your blog for atleast three months , write some good articles and get targeted traffic than you can sell blog post and if you get good page rank than u can sell links . Use cpc or cpa ads which suits better to you .

Use affiliate marketing that is specific to your blog content. For eg. if your blog says about money/finance/lease you can get registered to finance related affiliate programs like forex/insurance etc and put their text links or banners on your blog. Affilaite programs will bring you more bucks compared to adsense like ads.

Without good content, you won't get any traffic. Focus on the content first, traffic will come, then profit.

For a new blog, writing reviews could cover your hosting expenses. Writing too much reviews probably would not be a good idea; you not gonna get much offer anyways. Using the AdSense or other similar options together would be smart thing to do.

If you have a good blog then making money is really not a problem because opportunities will come to you. To me, nothing is better than adsense however, I'm going to experiment with a few networks soon.
There are quite a few ways of making money, it depends on you if you want to take it. I personally don't sell or buy text links or whatever that is against google policies/guidelines. Its upto you if you want to do it or not. If you have a blog with high page views then you can sign up with a cpm based advert network. A comprehensive list can be found here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=813502
If you have a blog with low page views compared to the ratio of say 1:3 for visitors:views then I'll tell you to sign up with a good ppc network rather.
If you have a blog which promotes products then sign up with an affiliate program like clickbank or amazon.
    Best of luck!

From experience, you only need one good affiliate that can link you and bring you at least 2,000 visitors on a daily basis. In that effort, I have gotten a PR5.

The best way to monetize your blog is actually to combine several methods. I recomend a combination of Adsense, Contextual Affiliate Marketing via CommissionJunction.com, Referral Links, AND paid reviews via a program like PayPerPost. The key is to blend your advertisements with the content to create a fresh appeal with your readers and an organic one with the search engines.

Once you have established some solid content, it's easy to add in paid reviews via PayPerPost (for more info read my PayPerPost Review here) and the Adsense income will start to add up. Then add in affiliate marketing that's highly targeted to your traffic and competative keywords.

In addition, drive traffic through a site like Associated Content and get paid to post your articles there as well. Finally, you can work out deals for paid links, smaller advertisements and other paid offers once you have established some decent traffic and organic content that's well recognized with the search engines. It takes time to build readership and traffic via Google however, within a few months you can generate substantial traffic via Google and other link building methods.

    Best & Take Care!

You don't need to pay for a guide to learn how to monetize! The best free traffic combines viral social networking & bookmarking with organic search engine content -- which is most critical. Affiliate marketing is great and as I wrote earlier, Commission Junction is a solid place to start. Another critical tip - write about your passion and something you care about. In my experience that has been critical for any niche.
