    Deregulation is not "free market".

Believe me, if there is a case for a state run monopoly, the postal service is not it.

As for your garbage collection, the municipality doling out the contract is not free market.

No offense, but I find Brits almost completely ignorant of what a free market is, given the way your government and economy has operated for the last 100 years. It's hard to believe that Hayek was an economist there.

Oh, and the energy industry? Deregulate further. What are the barriers to entry from competitors? Eliminate them!

When you don't have a lot of competition, that's not an indictment of the idea of private ownership. It generally means a market has not matured, or there is legislation hindering the entry of more market actors.

One could argue that the telephone is as important as postal mail. Cell phones have broken the landline (sic) monopoly, and the internet with scanning and printing has very quickly supplanted the postal industry and will continue to do so.

So many issues over so many decades in more modern times and over centuries have contributed to Africa's poverty. Currently, poverty remains widespread made worth by worsening weather that is hampering farming, national corruption, etc.

The Horn of Africa section including Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia etc. is particulary in horrendous shape. There is widespread famine, wars amongst people, and political hurdles to helping people.

Large numbers of the population are dying on a regular basis. Many of starvation. It is one of the disgraces of current modern society.

yes that's very true. Africa is very rich in terms of natural resources. Gold, bauxite, manganese, cocoa, timber, coffee, wildlife, fertile soil, etc., yet Africa remains the poorest continent on earth...

africa is being exploited in many ways.

There cultures and morales are harder to strip down via Global Penetrating Capatalism, therefore they will suffer until.

They have to take control of their resources...

After independence, a whole gaggle of Western entrepreneurs like Tiny Rowland to do "deals" with African governments so as to exploit their resources, the benefit to Africans was non-existent.

The big player in Africa now is China - but they are even bringing their own labour with them from China to do the work!

The problems are enormous and varied. Even as other nations of the world have exploited Africa, within their own countries there exist horrible corrupt and abusive governments. Between outsiders and insiders there exists no shortage of reasons for so much miserable abject poverty within Africa and so many examples of nations with ample resources that dramatically underperform relative to their resources.

Truly a shameful example of the negative attributes of humanity that at times take precedence.
