One more thing, I think your extension may prevent you from getting a good result on Google USA or other non UK channels.

But anyway, football fans in UK are numerous enough for UK websites alone.

I suggest you to use link building technique such as directory submission, social bookmarking and others, and use Football Club as your anchor text for your link going to site.,

Study the basic things about SEO first..As what I've seen in your signature, Its clear to see that you don't know how to use/target keywords.

Firstly, what are your keywords - this is regional and sports-based so I would imagine that "Edinburgh Football Club" would be the main one although I would imagine that you would have competition from Hearts and Hibs on this score ;)

So think about maybe using other keywords with this like Sunday League or amateur...

You should always decide what your keywords are before you design a site, not after - although, of course, you can change the design afterwards...

What is the purpose of the site? To attract new players?

If it's just to gain the interest of current players and associates then SEO doesn't really matter as you will promote the site directly to them...

    1) Find the target reader/user,
    2) Find the suitable keywords for them,
    3) Do optimization with above information, like link building, content optimization.

Probably the very first things you should do when advertising, but make sure you use Key words like everyone is saying, you'll find it helps alot just to have them extra words in key places.

    Hello!
After you do the "classic" staff:
    • Use good keywords in proper places without to spam
    • Get some back links from your site to other similar sites and vicevercea
    • Update the site frequently, adding new content each time. This is extremely important “The content is King”, without the 3Us (unique, useful, up-to-date) content Google will decide that the site is not relevant
    • Submit your site to main engines: Google, Yahoo, Msn and other engines

At this point use Web 2.0 to drive Free Traffic.
    What is Web 2.0?
    1. Social Bookmarking includes sites in which people store, classify and share links: Digg, Furl, Fark, Yahoo’s My web 2.0, Technorati, Simply, Squidoo, Stumple Upon, Mywebtop, Bloglines and so on
    2. Social Networking is about being able to group people into specific groups – online community if Internet users: MySpace, FriendFinder, Yahoo 360, FaceBook, Orkut, FriendWise and so on
    3. Video sites: YouTube, Google Videos, BlipTV, SelfCastTV, Bott, ZippyVideo and so on
    4. PodCasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet and listened to when listeners wish to: Autocasting, Videocasting, Godcasting, Palmcasting, Learncasting, MediaRSS, Skypecasting
    5. Blogs are very popular; they are part of Web 2.0 sites because of their conversational nature. Create a Blog for your site.

Sorry, but ranking is not coming without a lot of work.

    Regards
    Michisor
