How long does it take for a web site to be indexed by search engines? Is it possible to speed up this procedure?

It may take few days mate.

If you want search engines to crawl your site soon, you need to build backlinks to it.

    Hi,
it's take 10 to 15 days if you want fast indexing you web site then you change in content on your site and also some quality back links for your web site.

The fastest way to get indexed is by backlinks; in theory a website will eventually get crawled and indexed even if it's never submitted or found via backlinks. However, if you get backlinks from websites that are already indexed when they get crawled again crawlers will follow the link to your website. Make sure to create a valid XML sitemap and create a robots.txt using the sitemap auto discovery directive to give the crawlers a map of your web pages.

I run a blog and I got indexed in under a week.. all my blogs do.

I run wordpress, and the first thing I do is update.. constantly. At least make a few posts a day. Then secondly I change the links to a page, I forgot how to do this but there is a code that you insert, and it makes the links more search engine friendly. Then finally I put my link in my signatures in all my forums.

    Works like a charm

My site was indexed fairly quickly - but it seems to take a long time before you actually appear under the keywords you want to appear in.

Yeah, 2-3 weeks before your site will be index. I don't think it can help but try to update your site daily until it is index.
