    Do You REALLY Think NEW Directory Submissions Work..?
    - Published By Hamza, May 17, 2008

    Good Day Everyone. I just posted this on my blog (3Low.NET), so I wanted to share with all of you

    Yet, in today's published version, we will have a small debate on Directory's. Now, do you REALLY think that newly created directory's, who offer free submissions get you ANY sort of traffic what so ever? Even though the domains may have a good PR, such as a PR3, or even a PR4, or perhaps a PR5, to my knowledge, no matter WHAT the domain's PR is, it will NOT get you much traffic what so ever.

    Now, you may be disagreeing with me on the new directory's not giving newly submissions any traffic right? If you ask me, and my 7 years of business/marketing experience, when you submit your website to a BRAND new directory, or even a directory which has been around for a month or so, you will get VERY LOW to no traffic at all? You know why? The true reason is that, once a person who created the directory, the new directory, opens the submissions, the owner of the directory stops developing the directory website.

    You may ask how I know this? I have met MANY, and I mean MANY people who have opened brand new directory's, worked on them for 2 days, get as many submissions as they can get, with adsense or other advertising solutions up on their directory, to get click's, impressions and what not. After that, they just let the site be, and never look back at it, they just move on.

    Now, if you want to get some REAL TRAFFIC, you should go for directory's who have been around for many months, even years and have some of the following:

    * Under 100,000 Alexa Rank
    * PR Greater than 6
    * Page Strength
    * Price (Really doesn't matter

    There is one directory that I would HIGHLY suggest you check out is, Aviva Directory. They are a bit expensive, about $49.99 per submission, but as the old saying goes, "No pain, no gain". I have made MANY submission to that directory and I AUTOMATICALLY start seeing results the next day. I get ATLEAST 500-600 UNIQUES a day, AND the uniques INCREASE by 100 each day. Truly, it depends on the kind of content you have on your website, but as for me, I always keep my content at the top of the line to get maximum output of my Published work.

    So, in the end, from my point of view and knowledge, the best way to get good amount of traffic to your website is to go for the PAID directory's, which actually show you results, unlike those free directory's, which barely get you any sorts of traffic.

    Thank you for reading.

    - Hamza.

    Hamza,

    You are right, most directory listings get very little (if any traffic). Even the great Yahoo Directory sends my sites 0 traffic. But the importance of submitting to directories is that you can improve your rank at Google and the other search engines. Submit relevant titles in your submissions, and as they are approved your search engine rankings for those keywords improves.

    I agree some directory owners build directories and abandon them. But there are very few that do this. Many will run a free directory until they get some PR and then turn their directory into a paid directory. But not all do this, and for those that continue to run free directories have my deepest respect. Running a free directory is a lot of work with very little financial compensation.

    You receive 500-600 a uniques a day from Aviva? And the uniques further increase by 100 uniques a day? Wow, that is much better then most listed in Aviva.

    There are some very good paid directories, and I agree Aviva is one of those. But free directories have their place in the food chain as well. In this article I discuss directory submission tips. I invite you to read it to get a different perspective on free directories and why brand new directories should be submitted to well before high PR directories.

    sorry i don't believe you without a prove, our site was submitted years ago to yahoo directory, dmoz and Business.com and we don't get 100 uniques a month from those directories, also directories are not for traffic but for SEO and page rank...

    thanks

    I don't believe him this either, this appears to be nothing than a pathetic veiled attempt to drum up business for a flagging directory.

    I'm sorry you feel that way, but you miss understood me. What I mean't by Aviva Directory being a good example was that Aviva is one of the good examples. I do not get ALL of my uniques from Aviva, there are other paid directory's I use. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

    I had started to reply earlier today but had opted to let the thread die. This so smacks of an Aviva plug. But, now that I took the time to look a little deeper, I checked out their signature link. This whole thread is a plug for a cut-rate article writer with a 3-day-old blog by someone who still needs to learn a bit more proofreading and grammar (check your blog - one is singular, known not knows, and what not).

    Unfortunately, what bugs me more about this "article" is the continuing attempt to promote paid directories as somehow being better than free ones simply because they charge for listings.

    If someone utters the words "new directory" and PR in the same breath, chances are very high that they have purchased an expired domain and will likely retain little to none of that PR after the first update. Those folks are intending to make money fast (read cheat people and disappear) and their directories should be avoided as a waste of time. These cheats are making free and paid directories.

    If that had been your sole point regarding value, I would be in total agreement with you. But when you go further and say that all free directories are like that then I do have to take issue. There are numerous free directories that have been around for a lot longer than a few months and send traffic to the sites listed every day. Are they all PR 6 or higher? Probably not - there's not too many of those anymore.

    Since you have clarified that your traffic is not coming directly from Aviva and that it is organic, backlinks from any sites can be contributing to that. I have a site that took off with only signature links on a single forum related to the site. Both Yahoo! and Google were showing only a scant handful of links from other sites. It even got a PR of 2 on the last update. Should I start telling everyone to not bother submitting to directories because all they need to do is put links in their signatures? I can "prove" my theory, therefore, it must be true.

    Please do more homework before making these sweeping judgments and lumping a category of sites together simply because of their monetization strategy and by highlighting the thieving actions of a few. Even your favorite example was new once - it wouldn't be what it is today if people weren't willing to submit to it when it was new.

    If your intention was to show off your article writing prowess, you picked a really poor way to get business from the website owners on this part of DP.

    Nowadays I'd be surprised if Aviva got five-to-six hundred uniques a day:D

    - Alexa Rank: Largely inaccurate. I won't even bother going into this, it's a load of piss and everybody knows it.

    - Page Rank: Again, largely inaccurate of telling the success of a site, (though does help the site rank better in Google), period.

    - Page Stength: LOL. You should see my pagestrength reports from recently, you'll roflcopter til you soisoisoi.

    - Price: "Doesn't matter". Did you really just say that? So you'd happily pay $299 for a Yahoo listing whereas you can get a listing in any other decent directory for $9, never mind $299?:confused:

    Ahh...bed time:D

    I don't think many people had a doubt that directories don't bring in traffic. The real value is having a controlled anchor text backlink pointing to your page.

    Actually I get more traffic from free and low fee paid review directories then I do from Yahoo Directory. Granted, it may be the directory owners checking their listings, but its traffic! :D

    That's where we differ, I'd be happy to have just a few visitors who actually paid for a service rather than a million other directory owners wanting to keep an eye on their listing, that doesn't put food on my plate.

    i think this topic completely misses the point of directory submission. i don't submit to get traffic, i submit simply so my anchor text is there on a page that google will eventually find, thus increasing my SERPS slightly.

    And your asking a question? Look, it's pretty obvious the above is true - and with that in mind, it's a wonder why they bother doing it at all if they aren't going to run it or maintain it as a service. Pointless, just a joke and a waste of time :rolleyes:

    You will not get anywhere with only 2 days effort ~ it takes years to build a proper resource, and anything less is waste of time, effort and money.

    Yes, I concur. Deepest respect for those guys!

    Free directories do the most good for SEO. I know of a few niche directories that will give you some traffic. But, for the most part I just use them to refine my link profile and get the right text pointing back to my site.

    Some of the traffic is legit, but some certainly is from directory owners maintaining their listings. My point being Yahoo Directory, as big and reputable as it is, sends me less traffic then free or low cost review listings.

    So there's really no difference here. In the end, it is all about traffic - preferably quality traffic. :)

    Yahoo directory is a waste of time for one reason only, it has a search engine that does the real traffic sending. People need to see that bit.

    Yup, but people are buying the cheap directory listing for the internet presence. Yahoo link is more of a branding thing than a traffic driver.

    In my experience there is no harm in submitting to a new directory, as your websites still gets linked to. I still prefer to submit to a slightly older directory when I can as its more established.

    Aside from the authoritative links, I'm not a fan of the Yahoo Directory. The last site I checked had 8 different listings in the Yahoo Directory, and it was a free listing. I have other business listings recently accepted in the Yahoo Directory as well, and the cost was $0. Avoiding the $300 submission is the key to making it worthwhile. :)

    So the obvious question is how you get a free listing? The non profit way I guess?
