    hello all

i have an issue with one of the websites i am doing SEO for. i want the website pos-consumables.co.uk to rank for "till rolls". i have been building LOTS of links with this keywords to the website but it's just not ranking for it.

i'm not sure how well indexed the site is in google, but i've personally produced xml sitemaps for every product on the site. the site is quite well optimised for SEO and theoretically *should* rank quite well but it's not appearing in the SERPS...

this is quite bizarre and i've never had such problems getting sites to rank before.

    any thoughts?

    thanks

Is it possible it is because your homepage is redirecting ?

    How old is your site?

How many backlinks do you have?

I suggest you keep building backlinks. Try to get some back links from high PR pages.

    And wait for some time.

I did a search for "till rolls" and found you in google, but #400 or something like that. So you are there at least, you just need to build your page rank I think. That'll bring you up higher on the search results.

The main reason your site isn't ranking for 'till rolls', 'thermal till rolls', and other terms is because of the quality of your links.

Pretty much every single link you have is from a directory. I was just agreeing with another member who was talking about all of the people on here posting '1,000 backlinks in 1 week!' and how ridiculous this is. Same with directory submission services.

If you want to rank for the term 'till rolls' this is what I recommend you do.

Focus on getting one-way backlinks that are NOT from directories. At this point in time do not worry about the number, just try to get as many legitimate links from related sites as you can. The anchor text you use for each of these links should vary, but should always include the words 'till' and 'rolls'. For example, good links would be 'thermal till rolls', 'till rolls for sale', 'till roll information'. The majority of your links, however, should just have the anchor of 'till rolls' however attain these links in moderation!

Do this for a month or two and watch your SERPs climb.

i would completely agree with you, but the work i've been doing with other websites and keywords would beg to differ. i have been getting page 1/2 rankings for keywords (even more competitive keywords) for my other sites simply with directory submission, hence my confusion.

One other reason I could think of is if the site is being run through a shared hosting set up, another site that's on the same server you're on could be causing some problems for you.

If this is the case, I would either upgrade or ask your hosting provider if they would kindly switch you over to another server.

Its always better to have the keyword in your domain that you are trying to rank for if you didnt know that already :D.
