I just had this idea while posting on forums in my niche, spreading my signiture around. What do you think of the idea of choosing (a) major post whore(s) (top posters of a forum) by browsing the member section and then paying them about 20 bucks a month to carry a link to your site around in their signiture? I don't worry about the quality of their posts as much as long as they're not spammy, because I already have an official account with a signiture link to my site, and I try write quality and informative posts. I just need a few living signboards who can spread my link around a little faster and in a wider area. What do you think?
I wouldn't say that it's the best method of advertising your website, but it would be somewhat helpful. I'd recommend not to do this, but if opinions differ and you are in favor of doing this, then be reasonable with how much you plan to pay the posters, don't waste tons of money on something that may not be very effective.
I used to do this... linking to adsense/ebay arbitrage pages, that way I could quickly create a page for any type of forum and scale it as much as possible. Lets say it was a big purse forum, I would create a "catalog looking" page and each image of a purse would be an ebay affiliate link to an auction on ebay(my GF used to buy off purses off ebay). The hard part was contacting members with the most posts and getting them to do this. You need to come across as not spammy because some can get pissed. IMO, it's not worth the extra few hundred dollars/month I was making compared to how easy it is with social networks such as myspace and youtube.
Heh, that's pretty sneaky and smart. How do you use myscpace and youtube to your advantage? Do you create a profile and add friends or do you network with certain people or on groups and forums?
For MySpace, you either buy a Friend Adder for $25 and post bulletins with your site code or put it on your profile. You also post it in the forums. For YouTube, I'd guess people put the link in their video's and go add other members and subscribe to them so they see their site link. You also should post comments on popular video's and turn on Active Sharing. Also, are you going to reply to my PM?
On my forum, I disabled signatures on my forum a few months ago because of this problem. People from other sites, with the same nitch as mine were posting trash replies, your typical - "Good suggestion, thank you" kind of stuff just to spam a link in their signatures. I finally disabled signatures for all usergroups. Your suggestion is good, as long as your link dies not compete with the site you are posting in. Nor do you want to abuse the signature system.
It would only be helpful in the short run. What is your main objective? If you are trying to make a lot of money in the long run you might as well put more investment and time into it and do it legit.
Signature links do not produce very much traffic, you should invest that $20 (probably a bit more) into some SEO, and let google send visitors to your site.
For myspace, I pick a profitable niche and build email lists, that way I can build a relationship with them even if they don't convert right away. (you can make your profile into a "squeeze page" and using an auto-playing video you can really catch their attention and get some nice conversions on that). Find the identity of your target market and use the advanced browse feature to laser target them. Just friend or message them and make sure your display image/name is relevant enough to their identity to get a click. Once they click and go to your profile, the auto-playing video will reel them into opt-ing to your list which will be right below the video on your profile(they don't even need to become your friend or anything because now you can send them emails whenever you want to make money). Theres a lot more involved in this but It's hard to explain in writing which is why I made training videos about these tactics. Good luck with the marketing man!
generally dp signatures links appear as google backlinks there is a section for signature link sales http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58
I think you've just called 90% of the members here post whores. Brave move for someone who has been here only a week!
Oh yeah I almost forgot, you can check out payperpost which will get you way more traffic but the hard part is getting accepted by them, but it doesn't hurt to try.
Lots of info on pay per post programs here: http://www.paypalcommunity.info Feel free to register and ask any questions
I already invested in SEO but since I'm entering one of the most competitive and saturated niches on the web I'm not going to rely on my google rank too much for traffic.
Another downside to doing this is that you can't control what they write/say. If they say something rude/controversial, your logo and link will be associated with that. Not good.
I thought Pay Per Post got in trouble with Google and sites that associated with them got in trouble too? I would at least do some research before getting involved with them.
