i havent done a free one forever.

register with yahoo, ie get yahoo id, email etc.

your site must not be commercial, business, etc.
    find the appropriate category.

begin the submit process (i cant post links yet, so aggravating, add http to this )

Save your money and spend it somewhere else (High PR's Directories, Link Exchanges, Buy Links with high traffic sites) this will do you better.

Where is that option? I have never seen a way to get listed without the $299 investment.

From what I understand it is worth the money to spend, you don't get much seo benefit from yahoo, you get the seo benefit from new directories that have to get their content from somewhere. They usually get content from DMOZ and the yahoo direcory. So I would say its worth it because you are going to pick up links from other sites from it.

    I really don't think its worth paying $299 !

Just send your link for free to DMOZ, and your set! :D

Everyone who says it's a waste has no clue what a high competition keyword term is.... so the advice is at best, worth less than a seconds worth of consideration.

If you want to rank well for high competition terms, and get a nice PR boost then I strongly recommend it. Make sure you know the primary keyword term that will drive the most traffic before submitting.

You might want to look at competitors in the same category and use their title tag and description as a template for your own.

Ohh and to further reinforce that notion... Google itself tells you to submit there

    When your site is ready:

    * Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.

Its one of 3 directories worth buying. If you're serious about your business, just buy it - it does help, trusted links of the sort are not easy to get.

Are you sure? when you are about to sell your business, who ever that would look into your website, he would be better seeing an old time link back from yahoo directory, rather then some 3-4 unknown directories, besides these days we all know directories can be banned/penalized, so when it comes to trust, then yahoo directory is defiantly one of those.

and if you make that much a year, i'm sure you dont have problem spending out a bit more. business is always on expanding yourself and putting resources of cash on the right things on the right time
