Hi I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. I apologize in case it's not. I'm not a writer, but just today I found the need to start writing content for my site. What do the experienced writers at DP would recommend me to start writing good content?
What do you mean? Some will say "Good Content" = "Good Keywords", however, whatever you write, it will help you regarding the seo factor.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/If-You-Can-Talk-You-Can-Write/Joel-Saltzman/e/9780446395076/?itm=4 I recommend this book to my readers. It's one of the best books out there. Start there. Over time you'll find that writing isn't as hard as you may think it is.
If you're not a writer, I suggest hiring one rather than trying to do it yourself. Your readers will thank you.
What site are you wanting to write content for? I could pass you a few ideas. Is it for the Business Directory in your link? Having content is okay, though I recommend if you are looking for actual people to read it and want to learn more about your company, I could probably throw you an idea or two about how to make a few quality pieces that people will come back for.
Hi CalissaLeigh. Yes, I want to learn how to write content for my business directory. And I would appreciate to hear those ideas you have. I've also been thinking about letting other people add their own articles. Would that be a good idea? Bye!!
You can offer to post content on your site, though since your site is new it probably won't get all that much content, and the content you might get might not be so great and might not be what you are looking for. I think you'll want content that is pretty focused. Advertising on the Internet, online marketing and why directories can be a good link for SEO. You have a pretty specific directory, a directory of resources to help improve an online business. That's all you have to focus on for this website. So that makes your job easier. Write reviews of new technology, books or websites that are resources for online business owners. Take tips from questions asked in this forum asked by website owners about how to improve their resources, and then rewrite and answer the question in the form of an article, or a report. Just remember that people want something useful, so if you use it or read it frequently, others will too. If there's a marketing list you use to promote your site, share it. Create another better one designed for different markets. There's a thousand ideas to play out with your site, these are just a few.
Depends what kind of copy for general content go check out the content area, if you are looking for some sales copy check out warrior forum or something like that
Start with something. No one was a born writer, so don't bother to what some might say about hiring a writer to do your job. I would recommend the same, however I think you want to be good writer, so hiring them won't really help you. Everything begins with a first step, so start writing, good/bad comes much later and don't be discouraged by harsh comments or ideas. Write with your head, you lose the integrity and write with your heart, you lose the focus. So write with the aid of both and not only any one. Remember, the next step is actually a step away.
Becoming a writer is as easy as trying out. Becoming a good writer is a neverending road plenty of reading, learning, practicing and perfectioning your writing skills on a daily basis. If I would be aiming to be a good writer I would start with the basics, the elements of style, www.crockford.com/wrrrld/style.html
Reading good books offering useful information about the nature of your website would be a good start. Proper analysis of what you've read and identifying the details most useful for your target audience should also be done before you write content for your website. Since you mentioned you didn't have enough writing skills to qualify as a "good writer", try creating something out of your existing literary skills. Afterwards, hire a proficient editor to correct your work and provide you with useful comments. This will help you learn while you write - it could possibly help you earn more from your website, too.
Join some content submission sites such as associated content and constant content. AC will take a lot of crap but if you can get articles approved on CC, you are good. The forums of both of these sites are great for experienced writers and beginners. Great tips on both! Or just hire someone who can give you what you need.
Give it a go yourself. The only surefire way of knowing that your content is unique and original is to write it yourself. If it doesn't work out, then look for an established writer to help you. As many here have said, try reading lots, make notes every time you have a thought on a suitable subject. Try to write some short articles on subjects you know well and then try to edit and revise them to make them better. Why not sign up for a forum like writingforums.com where writers will critique your work in the forum. It'll at least let you know if you're on the right track. Search the web for advice - try the site in my signature.
You could try it yourself, but if you're not a natural when it comes to writing, you're definitely going to have some learning to do. Heck, even if you are a natural writer, it's still going to be a challenge. But it's well-worth it if you stick with it. Or, alternatively, you could hire a writer. If you go this route, be prepared to pay a decent amount of money to get good content. Good writing is not cheap.
it may be wise to outsource the writing, so you can do other things, it all depends on what you feel you do best with your time, sometimes its better to let someone else do it and then you focus on things you love and are very good at all depends on your situation and what you want to accomplish!
If the idea of writing the content excites you -- then by all means, go ahead and write it! There are lots of people that are great writers that are not necessarily professional writers, but they do writing as part of their jobs. Writing a rough draft of the website could also help clarify if you really want to hire a writer. If you try to write a couple of pages and you find it very taxing -- that's a sign this job just isn't for you. Sometimes it is better to call in a pro. Like I've been known to cut my bangs every once in awhile, but I would never attempt to actually cut hair!!!! lol. Think about writing a couple of pages and see if you feel it meets your needs. You want to keep the keywords to under 5%, probably like 3% most of the time. Reading about SEO would also be helpful. Good luck!
