Worth of PR7 link against PR4 links

How many PR4 links one need to have to get the same effect as one PR7 link in terms of PR of the website and ranking in search results?

PR7 links are rare but it is worth to hunt for 1 PR7 link than to fish for 100s of PR4 links?

    Any rough idea?

IN Serps 100 Pr4 links (i assume all have same content, quality) will be better instead of Pr 7.For Pr, Pr7 will probably beat.

You mean to say that 100 PR4 links are worth 1 PR7 link?
Man it is too much :D

Not only the number but the relevancy of the link text and the text near the link on the same page will affect things too. Counting links like this might be a bit too simple a view of how Google really places sites in SERPs.

I can certainly tell in terms of time from my own experience
    PR4 - 6 months
    PR7 - 4 years

But yes it would be worth to get a PR7 link than looking for PR4 links.

And old saying always prevails ;) Link Quality Matters

I think no one knows for sure the correct answer except Google :)

Anyway, a PR 7 back link can help a lot.

If all 100 PR4s are from related sites with unique content, properly indexed and different IPs then I guess they'll be better than a single PR7. A single link from an authority website (loved by Google) can do wonders.

It seems we have neglected the "relevant subject" factor. Let's say the site is Travel related.

Would you rather get 1 link from authority site like microsoft.com or 100 links from pr 4 travel related sites?

Does anyone have any actual site examples that we can study?

You're all forgetting something very important here. How many external links are on those incoming links' pages?

Answer THAT question, and assuming that all the incoming links are relevant, THEN I'll tell you which is worth more.

looks we are getting good brain storming...
Lets assume that the backlinks are following all the standard SEO rules viz.

    - There are less than 20 outgoing links from the linking page, and lets assume further that all the other links are also going to similar websites (similar subject)
    - Content is relevant
    - Lets also assume that our link is from the top of page (keyword prominence)

What else??? If I miss something then assume that all other conditions are also fulfilled.

Now how many PR4 links for 1 PR7 link?

in raw terms a PR7 link is worth around 60 to 70 PR4s, based on lots of PR calculating tools.

that is OF COURSE if the two are both context specific etc. and yield of OBL on the same page

According to this, 3055 PR4 links would get you a PR7.

i have one of my sites linked to a PR7 site for over 1 year already and I am still sitting at PR4. Nothing has changed in the past two updates, so maybe PR7 is a bit overrated

emmm that is interesting... maybe something else is pulling your PR down like bad quality backlinks or linking to bad spammyfied sites?

link would not be deemed "quality" in googles eyes.. probably why your PR has not adjusted ;)
