I'm building a new home and they are just about completed. I'm trying to get a grasp on what my electric bill will be once we move in. I just received my bill for this month and I thought it was kind of high since no one is living in it b/c it's still being built.

We used around 407 Kw/h and our bill was $60.00. Our home is about 2,200 Square Feet. Keep in mind no appliances or nothing is the house yet. The water heater isn't even hooked up. My parents have 6 people living with them (3 PC's running 24/7, About 5-6 Tv's, washer/dryer, appliances, etc). There bill was only $150.

It's really hard to say what your bill will be. I had the same situation last year where we had a house built and our first hydro bill was like $80 when no one was even living in the house. I would say ours will probably average $100/month now with the winter months being higher. In the summer last year we were paying about $40/month (no A/C) but then the winter came and the furnace kicked on and our bill was around $200/month.

That wouldn't be to bad if we got a bill like that... how come they are so high when building a house just using nail guns and saws? When I got that bill for $60 with no one living it I was pretty shocked being an empty house. Is your's an all electric home?

Electricity in the UK is very expensive... as is everything else at the moment.
I suppose an average electricity bill would be around £50 per month (so around $100). Natural gas is even more expensive at around £60 per month.

We were shocked as well. Our first bill was an estimated bill which got adjusted the next time they actually read the meter. See they didn't actually come around and read the meter they just took an average of the area.

Yes, we are all electric. We have central heating (furnace) but it is electric and not oil. Here in the Montreal area it gets quite cold in the winter so our bills for the winter months were quite high. But like I said in the summer, where the lights and tv are rarely on it cost us about $40/month.
