Both are good... Niche directories are always better than general directories.. So for a "Health blog", health directory is better than blog directory, which is better than general paid listing directories.
MeetHere is right. A decent niche directory will provide you with targetted traffic. Paid directories (the good ones) are useful, and so that includes paid blog directories.
All paid directories are worth it for the right price vs. what you get. It is all about value. I like watching for feature link sales or grand opening specials and buying featured links at a discount.
You have a wrong thinking and idea my friend! DMOZ p), Yahoo, Business are not worth it you think? Apart from them, the directory industry has a lot of other powerful and 'worth it' paid directories.
tell that to those whom are on the first page of most SEs submitting to specific niches is the best thing you can do for your website thx malcolm
I take offense at the insinuation that paid directories are "not good". I know that I have worked hard on my general directories and while I wouldn't say that they are the best out there, I would think that at least they would have some power to help its listings in SEO and other benefits. So to generalise and say that paid directories are "not good" is, I feel, unwarranted.
Then you need to harden the up son, if you let others control how you operate then your not being as effective as you can be, you must know in yourself your values and disregard other peoples crap.
I would think a paid blog listing with the correct niche and good PR will provide you an extremely good back link which will help your PR and traffic as well. If it isn't valuable, other webmasters won't be paying for it in the first place. Market conditions dictate that there is a price and a good price for such listing.
Heh I imagine there would be some sort of bias for this question since there are probably a lot of directory owners here
Thanks guys for setting me straight. After thinking about it, it makes sense. It separates the serious blogs from the low quality ones. If you don't have a good blog you won't pay to get it listed. Since only serious ones are listed in the directory Google can give it higher PR and for users it's better for searching so more traffic.
He was being sarcastic and nicely referring to the bribes that some DMOZ editors accept in order to list a site.
Sorry, I'm not deep into the SE game like you guys. I wouldn't mind paying or bribing. Is there a list of their home addresses where I can send the package?
No, but I can tell you what restaurant they dine in of you wish to make a suprise appearance over dinner one night
