I made it so my proboards forum is only visible to registered users just yesterday. From that time the member count went from 221 to 229. People still don't want to post!! How do I get em to make some posts/threads?
And also, will having it set to where registered ppl only can view the board affect the bots ability to crawl it?!

    Site in question: http://gameindex.proboards24.com

Offer an incentive to post - like access to certain forums once they reach a number or rank.

That's exactly what i was going to say. But i'd also say to remove the invisible boards thingy... maybe add a few that are invisible, but not all, that way they wont know what's inside... there are many cases where that is what keeps someone away from your site.

Start a contest that involves prizes to the person who gains the most non-spam/constructive posts in a certain amount of time. Advertise the contest with a promo at the top of the board also. :) I'd also recommended having a many broad topics that a lot people would have something to contribute.

Get a none proboards forum. :)

phpBB, SMF, myBB are good free forums. You can get a free sub domain, and hosting acount and host a forum yourself.

On the forums homepage show a brief info (nicely designed!) of a member who in the last time frame (week, 2 weeks, month...):
    - gave most helpful answers to users problems
    - wrote some cool Guides, HowTo's,
    - was looking after your forums while Moderators were absent
    - did some other great stuff for forums, etc.

Even better if you connect this Promotion Thing with members nominating other members for Most Helpful Community Member in the last time frame.

But be careful. Do not allow it to get out of your control. There's almost always a case when a small group of members is being created who nominee members from this group only. To not to let that happen, encourage members to pay attention to new members and promote their job too.

Finally you are able to split this Promote Most Helpful Member Thing into two or so groups like Veteran Members and Not Yet Veteran Members.

As time goes you probably will have to write a script which will randomize the display of those Promoted members :)

    Good luck!
