You must go with CPM, I advice you Clicksor or cpxinteractive. You will earn 10times more then with adsense on forum.

@sachin410: 2/3 of my users come from search engines - there are only 14000 users registered on my site, but nearly 140000 reading every month.

@Imran: As I said my community is very sensitive and I don't want to annoy them. If I'd place a leaderboard underneath every first posting, they'd ask me if I'm mad :D - I need to choose my banner forms and positions very carefully...

@moneydude: Clicksor allows only sites with fully English content, my site is unfortunately only German. Cpxinteractive seems to be broken, got a link ?

Well if you know any code at all have intrusive banners for non members. Log in and the leaderboard would disappear.

Quite easy to code if you know what your doing or a mod for your particlaur forum software may already be available.

Anyone who knows how to create a "guest skin" in Invision Board ?

I registered for AdBrite a few days ago, after your recommendation. Since then there were about 100,000 "ad zone views", but "CPM impr." says "0". And so also my earnings are $0 at the moment. What's wrong with my account or do I just have to wait a little?

And almost everytime I look at my AdBrite ads there are the same ads like on AdSense...

With adsense well placed, a good CPM network like Tribal Fusion and an inlink advertisier like vibrant you should be doing over 5k a month with a forum and those stats.

I'm pretty good with forums, I get 3-4% CTR and have tried almost everything and know what works, PM me if you want to do a barter for me optimizing your site.

Mate you need to allow yourself some advertising space! Don't place your adverts somewhere in the right corner where no-one sees them. Or did Schumacher have his sponsors under his seat? ;)

The ads are related, so your members will naturally be interested in them. If you are worried about them complaining to you, don't. They might raise some eyes during the first days, but eventually they will get used to it and maybe even love your ads.

A placement like this one should triple your earnings. It's only front page optimization though. You need to have the link unit across the forum and possibly place an ad in each first post.

First of all thanks to all of you for your kind explanations!! :)

@JohnSON: I'll try to place the rectangles and horizontal link unit - shall I use AdSense, AdBrite or even another service in your opinion?

Adsense! That will give you the best payout by far!

    Allright, good to know.

What about inlinks - how are they counted? CPC, CPM? And would i.e. CPM mean that I get paid every 1000 times an inlink is shown somewhere in the text or everytime a user runs over it with the cursor?

    Your CTR is very low.

Try to improve your CTR. Optimize your ads placements. Try different ad units.

CPC = cost per click. It tells you how much one click is worth.
CPM = cost per thousand (M is roman numeric for 1000). Adsense dynamically calculates how much you should be earning for every 1000 impressions. Don't worry about this too much as it can jump up and down, depending on ctr and cpc. It will never be constant, but its good to see the average so you can replace it later with another monetization option.

Stick with adsense, but place other cpm networks on the right corner where you have adsense now to maximize your revenue (those which are allowed to be on the same page as adsense). With CPM you get paid for thousand impressions and with CPC you get paid per click. So make adsense visible and place the remaining CPM networds like cpxinteractive (if they are allowed on the same page as adsense) in the right corner.

Inlinks are counted per click, check out echotopic, i have tried them all inc. vibrant and they pay the best.

You want to spread your earings so have adsense in the spots above where users will click, then some banners down the side which are paid per time they are viewed, see tribal fusion for best payout on them. Then some inlinks which are highlighted words in threads.

Take Tripadvisor as an example. Their forum is packed with ads and still they have an incredible amount of visitors :)

I wouldn't try Adbrite for now, i had lots of trouble managing them. you have a great forum site, i think you should outsource a coach or a seo consultant to monitor your progress.
